First Trailer and Poster for GOOD NEIGHBORS Starring Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, and Scott Speedman

Magnolia has released the first trailer and poster for Good Neighbors, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival late last year. Jay Baruchel, Emily Hampshire, and Scott Speedman star as three tenants in the same building. The exact nature of the story is hard to pin down based on the trailer, except that the plot is driven by the secrets and fear of our main characters. This is the second time writer/director Jacob Tierney has worked with Baruchel following The Trotsky, and he appears to have a knack for harnessing Baruchel’s innate weirdness for the purposes of evil.

I feel like I am doing a terrible job at selling this. In my defense, the official TIFF description warns, “Good Neighbors may sound like a thriller, but its relationship to the genre is quite complicated.” So I’ll be more direct: the trailer is worth your time. Watch it after the jump.

Heather Graham, Dev Patel and Lili Taylor in Talks to Join James Franco in CHERRY
by Adam Chitwood Posted: May 18th, 2011 at 6:07 pm

A trio of actors are currently in negotiations to star alongside James Franco in the Stephen Elliott-directed Cherry. Variety reports that Heather Graham, Dev Patel and Lili Taylor are in talks to star in the film, which pits Franco as a cocaine-addicted lawyer. The story revolves around an 18-year-old girl who moves to San Francisco and joins the porn industry. She becomes involved with Franco’s character.

Returning to familiar territory, Graham is eyeing the role of a former porn star turned director who takes an interest in the young girl. Patel would play the girl’s best friend who just happens to also be in love with her, while Taylor will play the girl’s alcoholic mother. Elliot and Lorelei Lee co-wrote the script. Production is set to begin next month in San Francisco, after Franco wraps The Stare with Winona Ryder. He’ll begin shooting Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful this August, bringing his grand total of movies filmed in 2011 to about 37.

Trailer for I MELT WITH YOU Starring Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven

After those extremely creepy teasers that were released for Mark Pellington’s (The Mothman Prophecies) polarizingly dark drama I Melt With You, I really wasn’t sure what to expect from the actual film. Well, now the trailer for the flick has been released, and it’s equally creepy. It appears to be a very twisted version of The Big Chill, with Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven starring as three friends who share a vital secret. They go away together and apparently go insane. Magnolia acquired the film at Sundance and is set to release it sometime this year. Hit the jump to check out the trailer for I Melt With You.

**New Set Photo from ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER plus Hi-Res Version of Previously Released Image **New GREEN LANTERN Poster Featuring Hector Hammond **Eric Stonestreet and Wentworth Miller Join Indie Thriller LOFT **Trailer and Poster for HORRIBLE BOSSES **First Look at Jeremy Piven in SPY KIDS 4: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

New Set Photo from ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER plus Hi-Res Version of Previously Released Image

by Matt Goldberg   Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 12:09 pm

Filming on Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is underway. Fox has released a hi-res version of the image released earlier this week.  There’s also a set photo that shows Bekmambetov directing star Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln sans beard and sans vampire hunting.
Hit the jump to check out both images.  The film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, Alan Tudyk, Jimmi Simpson, and Refus Sewell.  Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in 3D on June 22, 2012.

New GREEN LANTERN Poster Featuring Hector Hammond

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 12:14 pm

A new Green Lantern poster has been released, this time focusing on villain Hector Hammond, played by Peter Sarsgaard. It’s a pretty spot-on poster, with Hammond making the obligatory “evil plan” face. It also serves as a reminder of just how grotesque Hammond becomes later on in the film, as witnessed in the trailer. I’ve been impressed by the footage we’ve seen so far, and I’m really hoping the finished product delivers.
Hit the jump to check out the poster. Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Peter Sarsgaard.  The film opens in 3D on June 17th.

Eric Stonestreet and Wentworth Miller Join Indie Thriller LOFT

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Eric Stonestreet is a scene stealer on ABC’s Modern Family but he’s about to made a radical departure as he’s in final negotiations to star in the dark indie thriller Loft.  Variety reports that Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) is also set to join the film, “which follows five married friends who share a loft where each of them bring their mistresses. When the body of an unknown woman is found in the loft, they begin to suspect one another of murder.”  As we reported back in February, the film also stars Patrick Wilson and James Marsden.  This cast and premise offers the possibility for a tight, claustrophobic thriller…or it could end up like 2006’s disappointing Unknown (as opposed to 2011’s disappointing Unknown).  Screenwriter Wesley Strick (the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street) adapted Bart De Pauw’s original screenplay for the 2008 Belgian film of the same name.  Erik Van Looy directed that film and will return to helm the remake.
While I’ll be interested in seeing Stonestreet in such a different role from Modern Family’s Cam, he’ll next be seen in the R-rated comedy Bad Teacher and the family film The Muppets.  As for Miller, he’s signed on to the indie drama Analog.  He also wrote the script Stoker, which will be directed by Chan-wook Park (Oldboy).

Trailer and Poster for HORRIBLE BOSSES Starring Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 12:55 pm

The trailer for Horrible Bosses has gone online.  Directed by Seth Gordon (Four Christmases) the movie centers on three hapless employees (played by Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis) who conspire to kill each other’s horrible bosses (played by Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston).  While I’m eager to see what a red-band trailer might hold, there are plenty of good jokes in this green-band trailer.  As usual, Bateman is terrific (his dry delivery at the end of the trailer is golden), but there doesn’t seem to be a weak link in the cast.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer as well as the teaser poster.  The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Donald Sutherland, and Julie Bowen.  Horrible Bosses opens July 8th.

First Look at Jeremy Piven in SPY KIDS 4: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 11th, 2011 at 1:21 pm

Dimension Films has released the first image of Jeremy Piven as the villainous Timekeeper in Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World.  Apparently, when the Timekeeper isn’t busy trying to rule the world, he working at his local theater company’s production of Guys and Dolls.

Hit the jump to check out the image along with the film’s synopsis.  The film also stars Jessica Alba, Joel McHale, Rowan Blanchard, Mason Cook, Antonio Banderas, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara, and Danny Trejo.  Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World opens in 3D on August 19th.

Quite a few more acquisitions to report from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival today. Two star-studded films found distributors at the festival, with The Weinstein Company picking up worldwide rights to the dark comedy The Details starring Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks, and Magnolia Pictures grabbing the US rights to the polarizingly dark drama I Melt With You starring Rob Lowe, Thomas Jane and Jeremy Piven. IFC Films acquired North American rights to the Ewan McGregor and Eva Green romantic thriller Perfect Sense, Sony Pictures Classics acquired the action comedy The Guard starring Don Cheadle and Brendan Gleeson, and Fox Searchlight snatched up the sci-fi drama Another Earth starring William Mapother and Brit Marling. Magnolia SVP Tom Quinn had this to say about acquiring I Melt With You:
“Mark Pellington has made a maverick, stylish and powerful film that resonates for days after viewing. Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe, Jeremy Piven and Christian McKay give some of the best performances of their entire careers and attention must be paid.”

“To be amongst such a great group of filmmakers at Sundance this year with my new movie was a humbling honor,” stated director Jacob Aaron Estes. “I grew up admiring movies that Harvey and Bob have championed over their storied careers, and so I couldn’t be happier to be working with them on THE DETAILS.”
Commented producer Mark Gordon: “The experience on this film has been a collaborative dream.  Mickey Liddell, the other producers, and of course, Jacob, all worked together to create a special film featuring a talented ensemble cast.  We’re excited to work with The Weinstein Company to introduce this incredibly funny story to moviegoers.

Park City, UT (January 26, 2011) – IFC FILMS announced today from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival that the company is acquiring North American rights to director David Mackenzie’s romantic thriller PERFECT SENSE, which had its world premiere in the Premieres section this week.  Directed by Sundance alum Mackenzie (who was at the festival in 2009 with Spread), with a screenplay by Kim Fupz Aakeson, the film reunites Mackenzie with star Ewan McGregor (who he directed in the critically acclaimed Young Adam).  The film, which was produced by Malte Grunert and Gillian Berrie, also stars Eva Green and Connie Nielsen.
PERFECT SENSE follows Susan (Green), an epidemiologist, who reemerges from an affair gone sour, and encounters a peculiar patient—a truck driver who experienced a sudden, uncontrollable crying fit. Now he is calm, but he has lost his sense of smell. Susan soon learns there are hundreds of people across the globe beginning to suffer strange symptoms, affecting the emotions, then the senses. The film offers a deeply moving proposition about the way the human race might weather a global pandemic.
