Josh Hutcherson to Star in Benecio Del Toro-Directed Short MONDAY

Josh Hutcherson (The Kids Are All Right) will star in Benecio Del Toro’s directorial debut, the short, fictionalized documentary Monday. The film will make up a segment of the omnibus feature 7 Days in Havana and, according to Deadline, will tell the story of a tourist (Hutcherson) who is taking in the city’s culture for the first time. Per the report, other segments within the omnibus (which I’m assuming will be similarly titled by days of the week) will feature recurring characters in the name of making 7 Days in Havana a cohesive whole.

Other directors contributing segments to 7 Days in Havana include Laurent Cantet, Julio Medem, Gaspar Noe, Elia Suleiman, Juan Carlos Tabio, and Pablo Trapero. Casting across the other segments includes work from Cuban actors such as Ana de Armas, Vladimir Cruz, Mirta Ibarra, Jorge Perugorria. As for Hutcherson, he recently finished up production on the follow up to 2008’s Journey to the Center of the Earth, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. That film is due out later this year on September 23.

Keira Knightley to Voice Tinker Bell in NEVERLAND
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 10th, 2011
Keira Knightley will provide the voice of Tinker Bell in Sky Movies HD and Syfy’s Live-Action Peter Pan prequel, Neverland. Knightley joins Rhys Ifans, Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins, Charles Dance, and Charlie Rowe in the two-part movie, which is scheduled to air this summer. The prequel re-imagines Peter Pan and his Lost Boys as a group of pickpockets who are transported to Neverland by a magical orb. It’s the second Peter Pan prequel we’ve heard of in recent weeks, joining Pan, which will star Channing Tatum and was picked up by Sony Pictures.

Hit the jump for the full press release. Knightley will be seen later this year in the dramas Last Night and A Dangerous Method. She’s also circling roles in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis and Joe Wright’s adaptation of Anna Karenina.

Matthew McConaughey to Star in THE DALLAS BUYER’S CLUB
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 10th, 2011
Matthew McConaughey has signed on to star in the drama The Dallas Buyer’s Club. 24 Frames reports that Jean Marc Vallee (The Young Victoria) will direct the film, which is based on the true story of Ron Woodroof, a heterosexual man who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986. Given only a few months to live, Woodroof began to smuggle alternative and illegal treatments into the US and into the hands of other AIDS patients. He ended up living six more years and prolonging the lives of countless others. Presumably, McConaughey will have to lose his signature physique as he wastes away, but isn’t it worth it just so we can all potentially hear the words: “Best Actor Nominee Matthew McConaughey”?

Hit the jump for more on the project and my thoughts on McConaughey landing the lead role.

Trent Reznor NOT Scoring or Acting in ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER
by Adam Chitwood Posted: March 10th, 2011
After his fantastic (and Oscar-winning) stab at feature film composing with The Social Network, it’s understandable that Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has been fielding a few offers to score more feature films. He’s currently working on David Fincher’s next film, the American adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and was recently rumored to be scoring and possibly acting in Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Well, now it turns out that Reznor won’t be scoring the Civil War-set vampire flick after all. He explains on the official NIN message boards (via Cinema Blend) that when news broke that he’d be working on the score for the film, he still hadn’t made up his mind as to whether or not he’d be taking the job. No word on why he turned it down, but he states that there’s “no juicy story here,” so presumably he just decided he’d rather focus his talents elsewhere for the time-being. Hit the jump to read what he had to say.

Josh Zetumer to Pen ROBOCOP Remake
by Jason Barr Posted: March 10th, 2011

A little over a week ago we let you know that Jose Padilha (Elite Squad) was in talks to helm MGM’s remake of Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop. Tonight, we can bring you confirmation not only that Padilha is on board, but also that the studio has hired Josh Zetumer to script the remake. Per Deadline, the studio expects Zetumer and Padilha to work together closely in developing the film which will undoubtedly be under close scrutiny from the word “go” by people such as myself who believe the 1987 original to be a sci-fi classic.

While Zetumer currently lacks a completed name project on his resume, the scribe’s spy-thriller Infiltrator is a “Black List” alum and is currently set up at Warner Bros. with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star. Moreover, he also penned a draft of the currently defunct fourth installment in The Bourne Identity franchise. Perhaps most importantly, Zetumer has experience writing remakes as he scripted a draft of Dune back when Peter Berg was attached to direct the remake of David Lynch’s 1984 film at Paramount.
