With director Seth Gordon’s (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters) comedy Horrible Bosses opening July 8, Warner Bros. has provided us with six clips.  As most of you know, the film has an all-star cast featuring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jamie Foxx and it’s about a group of friends that decide to work together to kill their bosses.
While I haven’t seen the film, I’ve spoken to a few people that have and they’re all telling me it’s great.  And after being on the set last year and laughing my ass off, I believe it.  Hit the jump for the clips, and here’s my on set interviews with Day, Bateman and Sudeikis, Gordon, and producer Jay Stern. http://collider.com/horrible-bosses-movie-clips/98836/

Is the Coen Brothers’ Next Film About Iconic Folk Artist Dave Van Ronk?

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 25th, 2011

A few weeks ago we brought you some quotes from the Coen Brothers’ appearance at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center in New York which suggested that their next film would be music-centric. At that time, the key quote came from Joel Coen who claimed:
“We’re working on a movie now that has music in it but it’s pretty much all performed live, single instrument…”
Today, 24 Frames is doing its best uncover more info behind the project and is reporting that the pic may center on one of the Greenwich Valley folk scene’s most revered names: Dave Van Ronk. Per the report, the Coen’s script is “loosely based” on van Ronk’s life as an influential musician and left-wing activist, and may even draw from Van Ronk’s posthumous memoir entitled The Mayor of MacDougal Street. If it comes to fruition, the project would be the Coens’ second musically-intensive film with the first being 2000′s O Brother, Where Art Thou? which garnered two Oscar nods. For a little more on the project, including a synopsis of Van Ronk’s memoir, hit the jump. http://collider.com/coen-brothers-new-film-dave-van-ronk/98791/

Liam Hemsworth Goes AWOL; Teresa Palmer, Austin Stowell, and Aimee Teegarden Also in Talks to Join

by Dave Trumbore    Posted: June 25th, 2011

Liam Hemsworth, who is currently filming The Hunger Games, has signed on for the Vietnam-era indie flick, AWOL. Currently, Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four), Austin Stowell (Puncture) and Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4) are in negotiations, while Chris Lowell (Up in the Air) and Max Adler (Glee) are in talks to co-star in the pic as well. Hemsworth will star as the best friend and comrade-in-arms to Stowell, whose stateside girlfriend (Teegarden) dumps him. Together, they go AWOL and return to their Michigan hometown to win her back. Sounding like less of a war movie and more of a wartime love story, AWOL is set amidst the anti-war counterculture movement at the University of Michigan. Danny Mooney’s directorial debut is slated to start production in Ann Arbor in mid-July. Hit the jump for more info on the principal actors’ upcoming projects. http://collider.com/liam-hemsworth-awol/98774/

New Images and Cringe-Worthy Clip from THIS MUST BE THE PLACE Starring Sean Penn

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 20th, 2011 at 9:23 am

Watching the first clip from the upcoming drama This Must Be the Place, I can’t help but think that star Sean Penn was re-watching I Am Sam and though to himself, “Yeah, I can top that.”  So instead of going full-retard, Penn is going full old-rock-star parody.  We’ve already seen his Robert Smith-inspired attire, but wait until you hear how Penn decides to deliver dialogue.  It sounds like a cross between a nerdy teenager and present-day Ozzy Osbourne.  It’s awful and I can’t tell if co-star Frances McDormand is embarrassed or just trying really hard not to laugh.
Oh, for those that don’t know about the plot, it’s about an aged rock star who decides to follow in his late father’s footsteps and become a Nazi hunter.  I’m not making that up.  Hit the jump to check out new images from the film along with the glorious clip.  This Must Be the Place also stars newcomer Eve Newsome as a gothic-punk music fan who is close friends with Penn’s character, Cheyenne.

First Image of Tom Hardy as Bane in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES; Viral Campaign Launches

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 20th, 2011 at 8:30 am

On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that filming had commenced on The Dark Knight Rises, we now have learned that the film’s viral campaign has begun.  You may recall that the alternate-reality game (ARG) for The Dark Knight was fairly epic and resulted in fun treasure hunts, deciphering, and ultimately tickets to see the film early.  TDKR is over a year away, but viral marketing waits for no one!  Today, the official website (thedarkknightrises.com) launched and had two interesting aspects.  First up, the audio on the website is some weird chanting (The League of Shadows? A poor recording of the 1994 album “Chant”?).  Secondly, every time someone tweets the hashtag #thefirerises, a new image appears on this site. The tiny image is your Twitter profile pic, but they’re being arranged and contrasted in such a way as to show a larger image.  Some smart folks went digging through the source code and uncovered the image being built was the first image of Tom Hardy as Bane.  I suppose a more appropriate hashtag is now “#viralthwarted”.
Hit the jump to check out the image. The Dark Knight Rises also stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine.  It opens July 20, 2012. [We have now updated the image with a high-resolution version]

First Look: Tom Hardy as Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises"

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Warner Bros has launched the official viral marketing campaign for "The Dark Knight Rises." By going to the site (TheDarkKnightRises.com), you'll see a blank page with audio of people chanting something.

Using an audio program, a person figured out that the chanting spells out "#TheFireRises," which is obviously a Twitter account. Going to the Twitter page (Twitter.com/#TheFireRises) contains a link to a page on the original site ....

After digging through the code, a hi-res image of Tom Hardy as Bane is revealed. Check out the photo below.

Stephen King Talks About "Carrie" Remake

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

It was just reported that "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been hired to write the script for the "Carrie" remake, based on a Stephen King novel.

Entertainment Weekly now caught up with King to get his thoughts on the new film. "I've heard rumblings about a 'Carrie' remake, as I have about 'The Stand' and 'It.' Who knows if it will happen," said the author. "The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not 'Casablanca,' or anything, but a really good horror/suspense film, much better than the book. Piper Laurie really got her teeth into the bad-mom thing. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White... hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast. I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids: Lynch or Cronenberg."

King feels that the movie was better than the book. That's not good since Aguirre-Scasa is planning to make the remake more faithful to the book.

Forest Whitaker Working on "Waiting to Exhale" Sequel

Posted: May 20th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Back in 1995, Forest Whitaker directed "Waiting to Exhale," based on a novel by Terry McMillan. The film went on to gross $81 million. And now comes word that a sequel is in the works.

"It's preliminary, but it's gonna happen," Angela Bassett confirmed on CBS show "The Talk." "[McMillan] wrote 'Getting to Happy' and she has written the screenplay. Loretta [Devine], Lela [Rochon], Whitney [Houston], Forest [will be back]. Forest is working on the script now."

While most of the actors are available to reprise their roles, Whitney Houston just entered rehab for drug and alcohol treatment. And Gregory Hines passed away back in 2003.

The cast now includes Nico Tortorella and Patton Oswalt, with Willem Dafoe in talks to play the local police chief.
Additionally, Michael B. Jordan (TV’s Friday Night Lights) and Alex Russell have been tapped as the leads in Fox’s supernatural drama alongside Dane DeHaan. Ryan Gosling in Talks for "The Lone Ranger" with Johnny Depp

Posted: April 15th, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Johnny Depp has been attached to star as Native American sidekick Tonto in Disney's "The Lone Ranger" film for quite some time. There have been talks that George Clooney may play the lead role, but now comes word that Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine) is in talks.

The Wrap says Gosling may not be able to take the role because the actor has recently signed on for the "Logan's Run" remake, which begins shooting this fall.

"The Lone Ranger" is directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) from a screenplay by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). The film is scheduled to appear in theaters in 2014.

Lone Ranger Eyes Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling to take on the Lone Ranger?
Ryan Gosling to take on the Lone Ranger?
Walt Disney Pictures is currently in talks with Ryan Gosling to co-star in their upcoming reboot Lone Ranger. The actor will appear opposite Johnny Depp, whose Tonto will actually be the lead, if he decides to take the part.

Ryan Gosling has already signed onto appear in Logan's Run, which may keep him from accepting the role of John Reid, aka the Lone Ranger. Logan's Run is scheduled to shoot in the fall, but it isn't quite clear when Lone Ranger will begin production. Johnny Depp is first shooting Dark Shadows, which is ramping up at this very moment.

Walt Disney's Lone Ranger will be told through the point-of-view of Tonto, while the masked man himself will become more of a sidekick. Timothy Olyphant and George Clooney have also been mentioned for this role.

Lone Ranger is in development and stars Johnny Depp. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.

First Trailer and Poster for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 14th, 2011

Fox has released the first trailer for Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.  I’m a bit disappointed by the take I’m seeing it but I’ll admit that an Apes movie is an incredibly tough sell.  The movie looks far more action-oriented and I was hoping for a moral story involving James Franco’s character and the main ape Caesar (played by Andy Serkis using motion capture)  that seems only hinted at in this teaser.  Finally, I don’t think people really care where their special effects come from and while I know that WETA is a fine effects company, people didn’t walk away from Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes remake thinking “Wow!  ILM really did a bang-up job with those effects!”  I know people respond to action, but having an ape towering over your bed and watching you sleep just looks silly.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Tom Felton.  Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens August 5th.

Watch the First Video Blog From the Set of THE HOBBIT

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: April 14th, 2011

Peter Jackson has posted his first video blog from the set of The Hobbit and if you’re a fan of Lord of the Rings, you’re about to be very happy.  Included in the ten minute blog are the soundstages (including Bag End, Rivendell, and another set you might know…) the costume department, and you can watch as Jackson blocks a scene with Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and a huge number of Dwarfs.  In addition to everything I’ve already mentioned, just hearing Jackson talk about being back in Middle Earth and hearing the music made me so happy.  As many of you might know, the Lord of the Rings movies are some of my favorite films of all time.  The fact that we’re getting two Hobbit movies and it’s the same team of people behind the scenes, I cannot fully express how excited I am to see these films.  If you’re a LOTR fan, you really want to hit the jump.

NSFW Trailer and Image for Cannes’ Selection SLEEPING BEAUTY Starring Emily Browning

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 14th, 2011

As we just reported, the selections for this year’s Cannes Film Festival have been announced.  Among this year’s selections is Julia Leigh’s dark psychosexual drama Sleeping Beauty.  How dark is the film?  Well here’s what he heard the synopsis was last year: “a haunting erotic fairy tale about a student who drifts into prostitution and finds her niche as a woman who sleeps, drugged, in a ‘Sleeping Beauty chamber’ while men do to her what she can’t remember the next morning.”
The trailer has some striking imagery and I’m intrigued by the unnerving premise.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with some images from the film.  The 2011 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 11 – 22nd.

New images have been released for the Cannes selections This Must Be the Place starring Sean Penn and Miss BalaThis Must Be the Place follows an aging rock star (Penn) who picks up his father’s mission to hunt down a Nazi war criminal.  As for Miss Bala, no synopsis has been supplied but we’ll provide one as soon as we get it.  In the meantime, the image from the film leads me to believe that Miss Bala is a harrowing drama about a woman struggling to fix her car’s windshield.
