International Trailer for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 17th, 2011

20th Century Fox has released a new international television trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Although only one minute long, I definitely feel like this is the best cut of the film I’ve seen so far if for only two reasons: 1) It doesn’t include the line of dialogue “That chimp’s company property!” 2) It depicts an ape taking out a dickish guy on a cell phone who definitely had it coming. Directed by Rupert Wyatt, Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, and Tom Felton.
Check out the new trailer after the jump. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is slated to hit theaters on August 5th. Click here to check out all of our previous Apes coverage.  http://collider.com/rise-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-international-trailer/97107/

New Red Band Trailer for 30 MINUTES OR LESS

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 17th, 2011

A new red band trailer for director Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) comedy 30 Minutes or Less is now available online and it rings of nostalgia for the time “you and I worshiped the devil for like two weeks.” Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, and Michael Pena, the film centers on a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg) who is kidnapped by two men (McBride and Swardson) and forced to rob a bank at the risk of being blown up. Thus far, everything I’ve seen from the film has made me laugh and I can’t wait to check it out in theaters on August 12th. The first image of Tom Cruise in director Adam Shankman’s (Hairspray) Rock of Ages adaptation has landed online. Cruise is playing the role of rocker Stacee Jaxx in the pic and, from the looks of this first image, will have no reservations about performing without a shirt. Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, and Julianne Hough star alongside Cruise in Rock of Ages which hits theaters on June 1st, 2012. Hit the jump to check out the image. Finally, in case you weren’t already aware, Rock of Ages is based on the 2006 musical of the same name and tells the story of a small town girl (Hough) who falls in love with Cruise’s larger-than-life-rocker, Stacee Jaxx, against the backdrop of classic 80s selections from groups such as Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon. http://collider.com/rock-of-ages-movie-image-tom-cruise/97093/

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer! Real or Fake?

Jun 17, 2011 by B. Alan Orange
"The storm is coming!" Could they be talking about a two year storm of fan made videos? A teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has made its way online, but all signs point to this being a really good fake. What called our attention to its authenticity, though, is the fact that it was shot pirate-style inside a movie theater, and there is a cheering audience. Are we hearing real people show their enthusiasm for this highly anticipated DC Comics adventure, or is it canned excitement from a Garage Band sound effect? Check out the video below and decide for yourself...Is this real or is it fake? http://www.movieweb.com/news/the-dark-knight-rises-trailer-real-or-fake

Scary Movie 5 Arrives April 2012!
Jun 17, 2011 by Brian Gallagher
The Weinstein Company sets an April 20, 2012 release date for Scary Movie 5
The Weinstein Company announced release dates for seven of its upcoming projects, including one we haven't heard about in the past few years: Scary Movie 5. The studio has set an April 20, 2012 release date for the project, although no cast members have been announced. It was believed that David Zucker would direct the project years ago, although it isn't known if he is still on board. No plot details were revealed either, and it seems that The Weinstein Company is not going ahead with the franchise reboot plan which we reported on a few years back.

An appropriate October 26, 2012 release date was issued to Halloween 3D, which will be directed by Patrick Lussier and written by Todd Farmer. No other movies are scheduled for release on that date yet.

The studio also handed out release dates to a few potential Oscar-worthy titles, with Coriolanus opening on December 2, and The Iron Lady opening on December 16.

The Weinstein Company also filled up its November schedule, with My Week with Marilyn opening on November 4, The Bully Project premiering on November 11, and The Artist set for a November 23 release.

Scary Movie 5 comes to theaters April 20th, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises Set Photos with Christian Bale and Michael Caine
Jun 17, 2011 by B. Alan Orange
Director Christopher Nolan is still in London shooting scenes for his climactic franchise ending sequel The Dark Knight Rises, and today, we get our first, albeit sort of far away and blurry, look at Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and his butler Alfred (Michael Caine). These shots reportedly come from a scene that finds Bruce and his lifelong friend and servant Alfred getting in a heated argument before Wayne boards a small private plane for destinations unknown. Check them out below.

Ryan Reynolds: 'Entertainment Weekly' Cheeky Autobiography!

Ryan Reynolds: 'Entertainment Weekly' Cheeky Autobiography!
Ryan Reynolds shows off a fake tattoo of his own face on his bicep on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue, on newsstands on Friday (June 17).
The 34-year-old Green Lantern star was asked to write a tongue-in-cheek biography of himself for the issue! Here are a few highlights:
On growing up: “In the Reynolds household, family came first. He spent a great deal of time with his older brothers and, in turn, his brothers were very close to him. Usually within striking distance. Fun to bruise and generally considered to be ‘emergency food,’ he was teased for being the sensitive kid who liked to mow the lawn and get punched in the face.”
On his effort to make the world a better place: “In 2006, in an effort to decrease his widening carbon footprint, Reynolds abandoned the use of his car and spent a year bicycling around Los Angeles. L.A. is not well-known as a bicycle-friendly metropolis. His lofty sojourn would soon take a tragic turn when he was run over at Doheny and Sunset. Not by a motorist, but by Ed Begley Jr. on his 12-speed Nishiki, calling Reynolds an ‘idealist’ while kicking him with a mile and a half of freshly shaved bone-white leg.”
On moving to L.A.: “After moving to Los Angeles at the tender age of 19 - armed with only $600 and a rape whistle - he quickly established himself as one of Hollywood’s most dynamic and immensely talented waiters.”

New Release Dates for THE THING and MONEYBALL

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 23rd, 2010

the_thing_moneyball_slice
The upcoming films The Thing and Moneyball have landed new release dates.  The Thing, which is a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter horror film of the same name,  was originally set for April 29, 2011, but then Universal decided to give that date to the new Fast and Furious film, Fast Five.  Now Universal is tweeting that The Thing will open on October 14, 2011.  The film, which stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton, will now square off at the box office against the remake of Footloose and Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers.
Also getting a release date is Bennett Miller’s Moneyball starring Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.  The film, which centers on how the Oakland Athletics became a competitive ballclub through utilizing statistics, will open on September 23, 2011 according to Box Office Mojo.  The only other film currently set for that date is the action flick Abduction starring Taylor Lautner and Alfred Molina.

Gore Verbinski Attached to Direct THE LONE RANGER Starring Johnny Depp as Tonto

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 23rd, 2010

In Hollywood, some projects can take a while to get off the ground.  In May of 2007, Steve reported that producer Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to re-team with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski for a new Pirates-style take on The Lone Ranger with a script by POTC screenwriters Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio.  It turns out we were slightly early on that report.  After a report in September that said Verbinski was finally in talks for the gig, Deadline is now reporting that he’s officially on board and that Johnny Depp will play Tonto.  There’s currently no word on when production will start or who will play the title character.  Depp and Verbinski recently collaborated on the animated film Rango, which is set to open on March 4, 2011.
Hit the jump for recap of Verbinski’s other projects as well as a brief refresher on The Lone Ranger.

Verbinski and Rossio are currently developing a supernatural police procedural for Fox called Magical Law.  Verbinski is also producing an adaptation of the video game Bioshock directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later).  Finally, this past summer Verbinski was in early negotiations to direct The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, but we don’t know if those negotiations resulted in him signing on to the project.
For those who aren’t familiar with The Lone Ranger, here’s a brief synopsis [via Wikipedia]:
The Lone Ranger is an American radio and television show created by George W. Trendle and developed by Fran Striker.
The title character is a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West, originally played by George Seaton (radio), but more famously by Clayton Moore (television), who gallops about righting injustices with the aid of his clever, laconic Native American companion, Tonto played by (amongst others) John Todd, Roland Parker, and (in the television series) Jay Silverheels. Tonto usually referred to the Lone Ranger as Kemo Sabe, meaning “trusty scout”.  Departing on his white horse Silver, the Ranger would shout “Hi-yo, Silver, away!” as the horse galloped toward the setting sun, followed by someone asking “Who was that masked man, anyway?” “Why he’s the Lone Ranger.” The sayings, as well as the theme music from the William Tell Overture, are indelibly stamped in the memories of millions of Americans (and Britons) who came of age during the decades of the show’s initial popularity or viewed the television series run nearly continuously for past fifty years. Reruns of the Lone Ranger as portrayed by Clayton Moore are still telecast today (August, 2010) sixty-one years after their production and initial broadcast. The character has become an icon of American culture.

Christian Bale Says THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Will Be His Last Time as Batman (Unless Christopher Nolan Says Different)

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 23rd, 2010

the_dark_knight_movie_image_christian_bale_slice_01
It looks like Christian Bale only has so much gravel-voice to give.  In a recent interview with E! News, Bale says that The Dark Knight Rises will be his last turn as the Caped Crusader.  Said Bale,
“The thing is that this will be, I believe, unless [Christopher Nolan] says different, this will be the last time I’m playing Batman.”
Nolan has previously stated that The Dark Knight Rises will be the last Batman film he directs and that the third film will “finish the story” that started with Batman Begins. Hit the jump for what Bale says he knows and doesn’t know about the third film.  The Dark Knight Rises also stars Michael Caine and Tom Hardy.  It’s slated for release on July 20, 2012.

Bale, who is picking up strong critical acclaim in David O. Russell’s The Fighter, says that when it comes to the plot of The Dark Knight Rises,
“I probably know a little bit more than some other people out there, but I think most people would be surprised at how little I do know… It just hasn’t been necessary yet. I know he’ll give me plenty of time to prepare for whatever I need to, and I’ll discover it.”
This coincides with Michael Caine’s recent interview where he said they weren’t set to receive the script until January.  Filming on the highly-anticipated sequel is set to begin in May.
