International Trailer for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 17th, 2011

20th Century Fox has released a new international television trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Although only one minute long, I definitely feel like this is the best cut of the film I’ve seen so far if for only two reasons: 1) It doesn’t include the line of dialogue “That chimp’s company property!” 2) It depicts an ape taking out a dickish guy on a cell phone who definitely had it coming. Directed by Rupert Wyatt, Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, and Tom Felton.
Check out the new trailer after the jump. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is slated to hit theaters on August 5th. Click here to check out all of our previous Apes coverage.  http://collider.com/rise-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-international-trailer/97107/

New Red Band Trailer for 30 MINUTES OR LESS

by Jason Barr    Posted: June 17th, 2011

A new red band trailer for director Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) comedy 30 Minutes or Less is now available online and it rings of nostalgia for the time “you and I worshiped the devil for like two weeks.” Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, and Michael Pena, the film centers on a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg) who is kidnapped by two men (McBride and Swardson) and forced to rob a bank at the risk of being blown up. Thus far, everything I’ve seen from the film has made me laugh and I can’t wait to check it out in theaters on August 12th. The first image of Tom Cruise in director Adam Shankman’s (Hairspray) Rock of Ages adaptation has landed online. Cruise is playing the role of rocker Stacee Jaxx in the pic and, from the looks of this first image, will have no reservations about performing without a shirt. Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary J. Blige, and Julianne Hough star alongside Cruise in Rock of Ages which hits theaters on June 1st, 2012. Hit the jump to check out the image. Finally, in case you weren’t already aware, Rock of Ages is based on the 2006 musical of the same name and tells the story of a small town girl (Hough) who falls in love with Cruise’s larger-than-life-rocker, Stacee Jaxx, against the backdrop of classic 80s selections from groups such as Journey, Foreigner, Styx, and REO Speedwagon. http://collider.com/rock-of-ages-movie-image-tom-cruise/97093/

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer! Real or Fake?

Jun 17, 2011 by B. Alan Orange
"The storm is coming!" Could they be talking about a two year storm of fan made videos? A teaser trailer for The Dark Knight Rises has made its way online, but all signs point to this being a really good fake. What called our attention to its authenticity, though, is the fact that it was shot pirate-style inside a movie theater, and there is a cheering audience. Are we hearing real people show their enthusiasm for this highly anticipated DC Comics adventure, or is it canned excitement from a Garage Band sound effect? Check out the video below and decide for yourself...Is this real or is it fake? http://www.movieweb.com/news/the-dark-knight-rises-trailer-real-or-fake

Scary Movie 5 Arrives April 2012!
Jun 17, 2011 by Brian Gallagher
The Weinstein Company sets an April 20, 2012 release date for Scary Movie 5
The Weinstein Company announced release dates for seven of its upcoming projects, including one we haven't heard about in the past few years: Scary Movie 5. The studio has set an April 20, 2012 release date for the project, although no cast members have been announced. It was believed that David Zucker would direct the project years ago, although it isn't known if he is still on board. No plot details were revealed either, and it seems that The Weinstein Company is not going ahead with the franchise reboot plan which we reported on a few years back.

An appropriate October 26, 2012 release date was issued to Halloween 3D, which will be directed by Patrick Lussier and written by Todd Farmer. No other movies are scheduled for release on that date yet.

The studio also handed out release dates to a few potential Oscar-worthy titles, with Coriolanus opening on December 2, and The Iron Lady opening on December 16.

The Weinstein Company also filled up its November schedule, with My Week with Marilyn opening on November 4, The Bully Project premiering on November 11, and The Artist set for a November 23 release.

Scary Movie 5 comes to theaters April 20th, 2012.

The Dark Knight Rises Set Photos with Christian Bale and Michael Caine
Jun 17, 2011 by B. Alan Orange
Director Christopher Nolan is still in London shooting scenes for his climactic franchise ending sequel The Dark Knight Rises, and today, we get our first, albeit sort of far away and blurry, look at Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and his butler Alfred (Michael Caine). These shots reportedly come from a scene that finds Bruce and his lifelong friend and servant Alfred getting in a heated argument before Wayne boards a small private plane for destinations unknown. Check them out below.

Daniel Day-Lewis to Star in Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN; Filming Set to Begin in Fall 2011 for 4th-Quarter 2012 Release

Earlier this year, Liam Neeson dropped out of the title role in Steven Spielberg’s long-in-development Abraham Lincoln biopic, Lincoln.  DreamWorks has now issued a press release saying that Daniel Day-Lewis will play the role of our 16th President.  According to the press release, the film is still based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s excellent book Team of Rivals with a script by award-winning writer Tony Kushner.
The press release also notes that “Filming is expected to begin in the fall of 2011 for release in the fourth quarter of 2012 through Disney’s Touchstone distribution label.”  That’s curious since, as we reported earlier, Spielberg was planning to direct an adaptation of Robopocalypse in January 2012.  Presumably, that project has now been pushed back.  Hit the jump to check out the press release.

ACADEMY AWARD WINNER DANIEL DAY-LEWIS
TO STAR AS LINCOLN FOR DREAMWORKS STUDIOS
Los Angeles, CA (November 19, 2010) – Two-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis will star as the 16th President of the United States in DreamWorks Studios’ Lincoln to be directed by Steven Spielberg.  The announcement was made today by Spielberg and Stacey Snider, Co-Chairman and CEO of DreamWorks Studios.
“Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest of actors, were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema’s distant future. I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with Lincoln,” said Steven Spielberg.  “Throughout his career, he has been exceptionally selective in his choice of material,” added Stacey Snider, “which makes us feel even more fortunate that he has chosen to join with us for Lincoln.”
Based on the best-selling book, Team of Rivals, by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the screenplay has been written by the Pulitzer Prize winner, Tony Award winner, and Academy Award nominated writer Tony Kushner.  It will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Steven Spielberg.
It is anticipated that the film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War.
Doris Kearns Goodwin won her Pulitzer Prize for No Ordinary Time, the story of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and the home front in World War II.  Kushner’s prize was for his play Angels in America, which later became an Emmy Award-winning television special.  He had previously worked with Spielberg on Munich for which he was nominated for an Oscar in the Adapted Screenplay category.
Filming is expected to begin in the fall of 2011 for release in the fourth quarter of 2012 through Disney’s Touchstone distribution label.

Michael Caine Says THE DARK KNIGHT RISES to Shoot from May to November

If you’re hard up for The Dark Knight Rises news, we have a quick story for you. In a recent interview with Empire, Michael Caine says that he expects to have the script for the movie in January and that shooting will last from May to November.  Said Caine,
“Emma [Thomas], the producer, said we’d get the script in January. Christopher said: ‘Script in January, shoot in May, finish in November.’”
The film is slated to be released on July 20, 2012.  Hit the jump for a brief refresher on The Dark Knight Rises.

Here’s a brief recap of what we know and what’s been rumored.

Leonardo DiCaprio to Produce and Star in JFK Assassination Pic, LEGACY OF SECRECY

by Matt Goldberg    Posted:November 19th, 2010

leonardo_dicaprio_legacy_of_secrecy_slice_01
Leonardo DiCaprio is set to produce and star in an adaptation Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann’s Legacy of Secrecy.   Per Variety, “The book — whose full title is Legacy of Secrecy: The Long Shadow of the JFK Assassination — asserts that Mafia godfather Carlos Marcello confessed to FBI informant Jack Van Laningham (expected to be played by DiCaprio) to having ordered JFK’s assassination. As part of a dangerous and long-secret undercover operation, the FBI positioned Van Laningham to become confidant to Marcello, who ruled organized crime in Louisiana and most of Texas for decades.”  While the JFK assassination sounds like a catalyst for the plot, the plot sounds more like Donnie Brasco than JFK.
Hit the jump for more on Legacy of Secrecy as well as a refresher on DiCaprio’s other projects.

Warner Bros. is looking at a possible 2013 release for the picture, which would coincide with the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination.  As part of his deal, Waldron “is retaining documentary film and TV rights to the book, which also says the Mafia played a role in the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and in Watergate.”  Boy, conspiracy theories sure are fun (just watch last night’s Community).
As for DiCaprio, he’s got plenty else on his plate including an adaptation of The Devil in the White City, Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic, Ridley Scott’s The Wolf of Wall Street, Oliver Stone’s Travis McGee,  and Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation The Great Gatsby.  If Warner Bros. isn’t looking to get Legacy of Secrecy out until 2013, then the project is probably on the backburner of DiCaprio’s busy schedule.
