Idris Elba, Sean Harris, and Kate Dickie Join Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

Idris Elba (The Wire), Sean Harris (Red Riding Trilogy), and Kate Dickie (Red Road) have joined Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, and Charlize Theron in Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi flick PrometheusThe Daily Mail doesn’t have any details on who Elba, Harris, and Dickie will be playing, and reports that no only did the cast have to sign secrecy clauses, but “were only allowed to read the story if they visited Ridley’s production office.”  As we’ve previously reported, Rapace and Theron will play “Elizabeth Shaw” and “Vickers“, respectively, while Fassbender is playing an android.
The intense secrecy surrounding the film has led to speculation that Prometheus is truly an Alien prequel despite Scott’s protestations that only “keen fans will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA.”  While we originally took that figuratively (the film started out as Alien prequel), the part about “Alien DNA” could be literal.  Hit the jump for more.

Casting Call: Jimmi Simpson Joins ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER; Kate Mara and Treat Williams Sign on to BLACKBIRD

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

We have a couple of quick casting stories for you this morning.  First up, Jimmi Simpson (Date Night) has joined the cast of Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterVariety reports that Simpson will be playing Lincoln’s right-hand man.  While I’m sure he’ll do a fine job assisting Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) in his political/vampire-slaying duties, I’ll continue to struggle seeing Simpson as anyone other than the creepy McPoyle brother he plays on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter also stars Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.  Shooting is expected to begin next month.  The film is due out in 3D on June 22, 2012.  Hit the jump for news on Kate Mara and Treat Williams joining Blackbird.

Jimmi Simpson Added To The Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Cast

published: 2011-02-25 13:59:33 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Last week Scoot McNairy was made to look like he was becoming one of the busier actors working today. In one fell swoop it he had managed to rope three roles in three major upcoming films including Andrew Dominik's Cogan's Trade; Ridley Scott's Prometheus; and Timur Bekmambetov's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Now it looks like one of those projects slipped through his fingers. Variety reports that Jimmi Simpson, best known for roles on television shows like It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia and Psych, has joined the cast of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter along side Ben Walker, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie and Mary Elisabeth Winstead. Simpson will play Josh Speed, Abe's best friend and assistant - the role that McNairy was rumored for just a few days ago. Production on the film is scheduled to begin in March and is set to be released in June of next year.

While Simpson has somewhat made a name for himself playing oddball characters (his character on It's Always Sunny, Liam McPoyle, certainly leading the pack), he has previously shown a capacity to play more serious, such as his guest spot on House and his role as a gunman in Date Night. Now the only question is what did Scoot McNairy do to lose the gig? Or did he ever have it?

James Franco’s 2011: WHILE WE’RE YOUNG, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, and SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 25th, 2011

James Franco is closing his deal to star in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful.  That’s not really news since we reported last week that Mila Kunis joining the project had basically put Franco on board.  The real news in Deadline’s story is how the busy actor’s schedule for 2011 is set to play out.  In addition to the press he’ll most likely be doing for his 2011 films Your Highness and Rise of the Apes, he’s got three films set for the year.  First up, he’ll costar with Ben Stiller, Greta Gerwig, and Cate Blanchett in Noah Baumbach’s While We’re Young.  In the summer he’ll move on to Oz, which is an origin story of the Wizard of Oz and the land’s various witches.  Finally, in the late fall/winter he’ll star alongside Nicole Kidman in David Cromer’s revival of the Tenneesse Williams play Sweet Bird of Youth.
Throughout his shooting scheduled he’ll continue working towards getting his PhD in creative writing at Yale.  I’ll be pretty busy myself, especially in the fall when a bunch of new video games come out.  Sure, Franco may make loads of money, earn tons of awards, and get his doctorate, but will he have solved all of the Riddler’s clues in Batman: Arkham City?  I think not.

Nicole Kidman Covers 'Marie Claire UK' March 2011
Nicole Kidman wears a white lace dress by Dolce & Gabbana on the cover of Marie Claire UK’s March 2011 issue, on newsstands Thursday (March 3).
Here’s what the 43-year-old Just Go with It actress had to share:
On her marriage to Tom Cruise: “As a couple we were very private. We were not out a lot and we were very, very tight and that’s why we lasted ten years, which is a good amount of time, particularly when you get married at 23. I was never seeking to be a celebrity. But I was prepared to do that for love. And that is something that is hard to do. It’s hard when you’re young. But I’m ready to give up anything for love because, ultimately, that is what you have. You get so much from a relationship when it is filled with love.”
On Botox: “Well, I move my forehead, I frown…I tried it, I didn’t like it, so I’ve gone back to my own forehead. But I’ve never had plastic surgery on my face. People say I have but I haven’t.”

Jenna Fischer Covers 'Redbook' March 2011

Jenna Fischer Covers 'Redbook' March 2011
Jenna Fischer rocks a Dolce & Gabbana dress on the cover of Redbook magazine’s March 2011 cover, on newsstands Tuesday (February 15)!
Here’s what the 36-year-old Office actress had to share:
On pressure to stay in shape: “In a normal job, if you gain or lose a few pounds, it’s no big deal. But in my business you have to tell someone so that the next time you go to a fitting, the clothes are the right size. It’s really embarrassing to have to say to your manager, ‘I’m now a 6 pant instead of a 4.’ Emails go out, and they cc the agents: ‘Jenna would like everyone to know that she’s now a 6 pant.’ This is why actresses obsess about their weight. It’s not a private affair.”
On whether her idea of “The One” has changed: “In a way, yes. After my divorce, someone said to me, ‘Finding love is not as hard as picking the right person to spend the rest of your life with.’ It was Paul Lieberstein, the executive producer of The Office; he also plays Toby on the show. I held on to that advice when I was searching. I’d start to fall for someone and think, But that’s not a good match. The fluttery feelings aren’t enough. When I was younger, I thought you married the person you fell in love with the most. But as [my ex-husband and I] learned what we wanted, I realized there was a whole other set of criteria. You have to ask, Do we have the same goals?”
On dating after her divorce: “I thought I’d go wild with freedom, but instead I pretty much did what I did in college - stay home with my cat [laughs]. I didn’t want to waste time flitting around. I remember going out with one cute and funny guy. I thought, We could have a really fun eight months, but that’s eight months I’m taking away from finding Mr. Right. I can’t afford that. So I ended it. In the midst of all that, I was having weekly script dinners with Lee, and I realized, I’m looking at basically the perfect man. It doesn’t get better than this.”
On being an aunt to her niece, Cecelia: “I already wanted kids, but even more so now. When Cecelia was 3 weeks old, Pam was on maternity leave, so I had a whole week off to spend with her. I took charge of the night feedings. It was so awesome: Every night at 9:30, I’d say, ‘You guys go to sleep now.’ I wanted CeCe all to myself. We really bonded.”

Kate Bosworth Covers 'Lucky' January 2011

Kate Bosworth Covers 'Lucky' January 2011
Kate Bosworth strikes a pose on the cover of Lucky magazine’s January 2011 issue.
The 27-year-old actress dished on her favorite pieces from her new jewelry line, JewelMint, as well as her favorite vintage store finds and her low-maintenance beauty routine.
On her fabulous find, a Michael Kors pencil skirt: “And it was only $15! I got it in a thrift store in Detroit [where she filmed The Reasonable Bunch with Demi Moore]. I felt like I had found a little gold nugget—they had no idea what they were sitting on.”
On her low-key beauty routine: “I’m the most low-maintenance person. I’m in a constant battle with my mom because she’s always saying, ‘Please, can’t you blow-dry your hair? It looks so much nicer when you blow-dry it.’ I always wanted thicker, fuller hair, but honestly, I’d just rather be doing something else than blow-drying my hair.”

Reese Witherspoon Covers 'Glamour' January 2011

Reese Witherspoon Covers 'Glamour' January 2011
Reese Witherspoon slips into a Burberry Prorsum dress on the cover of Glamour magazine’s January 2011 issue, on newsstands Tuesday (December 7)!
Here’s what the 34-year-old actress, who finished her look with a Neil Lane bracelet, Shery Shabani for Fragments necklace, and Fogal fishnets, had to share:
On how getting older makes her feel sexier: “I think as a woman, you get older, you feel more confident in your sexuality. You’re not as intimidated by it, not as embarrassed by it. Sexuality and femininity is an accumulation of age and wisdom and comfort in your own skin. I feel better - so much better now than I ever did in my twenties. I am calmer; I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier.”
On women in Hollywood: “There’s always going to be somebody younger or sexier. That’s why I like to say, and it’s become my famous line, ‘Funny doesn’t sag.’”
On having more kids: “I would love to have more kids. Kids are the best part of my day. I don’t wake up to make movies. I wake up to hang out with my family.”
On making romantic comedies: “I love romantic comedies. I watch them all the time. I love all my fellow female romantic comedy queens, like Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner and Katie Heigl. I also think that the questions romantic comedies ask about men and women are universal.”
