Zooey Deschanel Covers 'Self' July 2011

Zooey Deschanel shows off her baby blues on the cover of Self magazine’s July 2011 issue, on newsstands Thursday (June 16) in New York and Los Angeles.

Here’s what the 31-year-old actress had to share:

On getting to know yourself: “Most people spend too much time comparing themselves to others….Get to know yourself a little bit better. Stop and ask yourself a few questions, and think about you.”

On why she works out: “A lot of people work out to be skinny. That’s so boring, and it seems like a depressing goal for a modern woman. I work out to be healthy and because I like it. I do sports or classes, things that engage my mind. If you’re active, fitness will follow - and probably a good figure, too.”

On advice she’d give her former self: “If I could give my teenaged self any advice, it would be ‘Calm down!’ In fact, if I could relive one day of my life, it would be the worst day of seventh grade, just so I could appreciate how much better life is now.”

Zooey also joked with Self staffers that “if this acting thing doesn’t work out,” she could be a Snow White impersonator at Disneyland!

Keanu Reeves: Nobu with Mystery Woman!

Keanu Reeves holds onto his helmet while leaving Nobu on Saturday (June 11) in London, England.

The 46-year-old actor dined at the Japanese restaurant before leaving with a mystery woman.

Keanu reportedly wrapped up filming his latest project, 47 Ronin, in Budapest, Hungary.

The flick, which is a remake of a 1994 Japanese film, is set in the 18th century and centers on a band of samurai who set out to avenge the death of their master.

On being in the best shape of her life: “I never thought that I’d be considered to have a good body. I was bony up top and kind of dumpy on the bottom. But my trainer, Tracy Anderson, completely changed my legs, butt, arms and stomach. I feel better than ever, too.”
On making her workouts more intense: “If I’m prepping for something or I’ve been eating a lot of pie, I do two hours a day, six days a week for two weeks.”
On her inspiration: “I go with my instincts. We’re capable of pushing ourselves and doing whatever we want to do. You live one time, so be your best self.”

Katie Holmes: 'Son of No One' Will Close Sundance

On splurging - but not too much: “I love Target! You can get trendy, fantastic pieces there. Invest big money only on the classics, like a trench coat, great jeans or black heels. I recently saw this beautiful leather jacket at Gucci. I was, like, I’ll splurge. I’ve worked hard. Then I looked at the price: $10,000! For a jacket! I wanted to vomit on myself. I found one I loved for less than a tenth of that - it was still expensive, but since it is a classic, I know I’ll have it forever, and it goes with everything. I don’t feel guilty about it at all.”

On the importance of appreciating yourself: “When I was younger, I was insecure about being gangly and having no shape. People made fun of me and called me a boy! I remember praying for boobs and a butt. Luckily, I grew into myself and got curves, but when I was first modeling, I wished for that boyish Gisele body again! The grass is always greener. The best advice my mother gave me was to accept everyone for who they are, and you have to do that for yourself, as well.”

Brooklyn also shared a funny story about working with Adam Sandler - when Jennifer Aniston walked by on set, he whispered, “Try not to call her Rachel Green!” Of course, that was all Brooklyn could think of when they finally met…

Anne Hathaway Cast as Catwoman in 'Dark Knight Rises'

Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle (Catwoman) in The Dark Knight Rises and will star opposite Christian Bale and Tom Hardy!

The 28-year-old actress “will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story,” director Christopher Nolan said in a release.

“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies,” Christopher continued. Tom will play Bane, a villainous escaped prisoner “who became abnormally strong after being pumped full of drugs”.

The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for a July 20, 2012 release.

A shirtless Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway hug on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s latest issue.

The pic was revealed Wednesday (November 17) when Jake dropped by The Late Show with David Letterman to chat about working with an oft-naked Anne in their new film Love and Other Drugs.

“I mean, look. I’ve had a pretty illustrious career at this point but the hardest thing has been pretending to be turned on by Anne Hathaway,” Jake joked.

Asked by Dave how actors film a love scene without any mishaps, Jake revealed “it’s an art form.”

“It’s very carefully planned out. It’s actually very much like football, you know. There are plays. You just got to look for holes in her defensive end,” he said, before quickly adding, “I’m sorry! I didn’t mean it like that!”

George Clooney: Ripple of Hope Awards with Elisabetta Canalis

George Clooney and girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis hit the red carpet at the Ripple of Hope Awards on Wednesday (November 17) held at NYC’s Chelsea Piers.

George’s dad Nick, a former journalist and anchorman, also attended the event, which is the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights‘ annual gala.

Earlier in the day, Elisabetta was spotted leaving her NYC hotel to go shopping.

For his next project, George, 49, may be teaming up with his Ocean’s Eleven and The Good German director Steven Soderbergh.

George is in talks to star in the movie version of the ’60s spy show The Man from U.N.C.L.E., according to Playlist.

On aging gracefully: “The ultimate beauty secret for a woman getting older is, Don’t be too thin! It is always better to have a little meat on your bones. When you are just muscle, you end up being gaunt in the face, and that makes you look older by 5 or 10 years. I don’t think of getting older as looking better or worse; it’s just different. You change, and that’s OK. Life is about change. I don’t have anxiety about it, so I’m not running to get Botox. Maybe that will change, but I don’t think so. I feel comfortable in my skin and comfortable with aging, so I think it’s OK that I get wrinkles.”

On why her marriage to Seal is still so strong: “Part of why we’re so good together is that, in a lot of ways, we’re opposites. I’m speedy, and I don’t like sitting still for long. My husband is the most patient person I’ve ever met. He can explain something to the children for hours, and I will just say, ‘OK, this is how it is.’ We’re both really creative people. We may have some different passions, but we love and respect and trust each other.”

On what makes her happy: “I learned from working in the fashion world that if I have a day when I feel slapped in the face, or if someone has been mean, I just have to get back up and it will be another day. I think about what I’m grateful for. I look at my kids and my husband and think, Wow, I’m a really lucky person.”

Hayden Panettiere: Handcuffed for 'Amanda Knox Story'

Hayden Panettiere wears a pair of handcuffs for a scene for her latest TV movie, The Amanda Knox Story, on Tuesday (November 16) in Rome, Italy.

The 21-year-old actress was cuffed while Marcia Gay Harden, who plays her mother, looked on.

Hayden stars as Amanda Knox, an American student accused of killing her roommate back in 2007.
