It’s been a busy day for movie posters as we’ve already brought you new sheets from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Real Steel, and Green with Envy just to name a few. Now, we’ve got a few more promos to add to the pile thanks to the release of the first posters from Shark Night 3D and The Descendants. For those unaware, David R. Ellis’ (Snakes on a PlaneShark Night 3D stars Sara Paxton, Chris Zylka, and Joel David Moore, and features a group of college friends whose weekend getaway quickly turns sour after an uninvited school of sharks show up. On the other hand, Payne’s The Descendants is the tale of an indifferent husband (Clooney) who is forced to reevaluate his life after his wife is involved in a boating accident. Fox Searchlight is currently eyeing a December 16th release for the film which promises to be an awards-season contender. Hit the jump to check out the new posters.

Playwright David Auburn to Write Adaptation of THE CASEBOOK OF VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: May 23rd, 2011

Following in the footsteps of vampires and zombies, it looks like Frankenstein may be Hollywood’s next supernatural obsession. Pulitzer-prize winning playwright David Auburn (Proof) has been tapped to adapt Peter Ackroyd’s novel The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein. The story focuses on a young Frankenstein who spends his days experimenting with corpses. Mary Shelly, who wrote the original novel and created the character, appears as a character in Ackroyd’s book alongside her mother. Deadline reports that RT Features and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures will produce.
This is one of a number of Frankenstein-centered projects currently in development. Summit acquired the rights to Kenneth Oppel’s upcoming novel This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, Sony is working on a contemporary version of the story, and Guillermo del Toro has been working with Universal on an adaptation for quite some time. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of Ackroyd’s novel.

A few new posters have been released today. First up, the one-sheet for Larry Crowne has been unveiled. Co-written, directed by, and starring Tom Hanks, the flick centers on a laid-off middle-aged man (Hanks) who goes back to college and strikes up a relationship with one of his professors (Julia Roberts). Additionally, the poster for Tim Marsh’s (Man on Wire) documentary Project Nim has been released. That film follows the real-life project in the ‘70s that set out to teach a chimpanzee (lovingly named Nim Chimpsky) sign language in an effort to bridge the gap between man and beast.
Finally, we have the poster for Salvation Boulevard. The religion-centered comedy premiered at Sundance and stars Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Greg Kinnear and Jim Gaffigan. Hit the jump to check out the posters and synopses for Larry Crowne, Project Nim and Salvation Boulevard.

First Clip from TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON Features No Transformers but Lots of Male Insecurity

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: May 18th, 2011 at 2:52 pm

The first clip from Transformers: Dark of the Moon has gone online.  Does it feature robots punching each other?  Robots coming in from outer space?  Robots punching each other as they come in from outer space?  None of the above.  Instead we see Carly (Rosie Huntingon-Whiteley) leading her boyfriend Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) around her “Starship Enterprise”-like workspace and introducing him to her boss (Patrick Dempsey).  The boss shows off how successful he is, how handsome he is, Sam notices that Huntington-Whiteley is a supermodel, and promptly wets himself.  Okay, that last part isn’t true, but you can smell his insecurity.  You wonder why Sam just doesn’t say “Yeah, I saved the world a couple times with my giant robot friends, but those little trophies are nice.”
Hit the jump to check out the clip.  The film also stars Josh Duhamel, John Malkovich, Ken Jeong, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Peter Cullen, and Tyrese Gibson.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon opens in 3D on July 1st.

Britton, Oswalt, Huebel, Lynskey, and More Join Steve Carell and Keira Knightley in SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD [UPDATED]

The cast for the pre-apocalyptic rom-com Seeking a Friend for the End of the World has just kind of exploded.  The film was already set to star Steve Carell as a man who is joined by a woman (Keira Knightley) to find his old high-school sweeheart before the world is destroyed by an asteroid.  Yesterday, we learned that the talented Gillian Jacobs had joined the film and now we’ve received a press release announcing that a truckload of other great actors have signed on as well.  Check out this line-up: Connie Britton, Patton Oswalt, Rob Huebel (who yesterday signed on to another apocalypse-based comedy, Rapturepalooza), Melanie Lynskey, T.J. Miller, Melinda Dillon as well as Aaron Brown (The District), Tonita Castro (The Sarah Silverman Program), Mark Moses (Desperate Housewives), and Bob Stephenson (Jericho).  And this is all in addition to the previously announced cast-members William Petersen, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry (also in Rapturepalooza), Derek Luke, and Lindsay Sloane.  How can the movie squeeze in this kind of ensemble?  It’s a road-trip picture, which means most of these folks will probably only have a scene or two, but it’s better than nothing.
Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is making her directorial debut from her own script.  Production on the film begins this week. Hit the jump to check out the press release.
[Update: We've updated the article with a couple of set photos featuring Carell and Knightley. Check them out after the jump]

First Image of Glenn Close in ALBERT NOBBS

by Jason Barr    Posted: December 15th, 2010

The first image of Glenn Close on the Dublin set of Albert Nobbs has landed online.  In the film, Close plays an English woman who disguises herself as a male (pretty convincingly, I might add) so as to land a job as a butler in 19th century Ireland.  In addition to starring, Close is also credited as a producer and co-writer.  Joining the five-time Academy Award nominee in the film are Michael Gambon (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Showtime’s The Tudors), Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), and Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland).  Rodrigo GarcĂa directs (HBO’s In Treatment).
Hit the jump to check out the image as well as an official synopsis.  Albert Nobbs is based on the short story by George Moore and is currently looking at a 2011 release.

Here’s the official synopsis:
19th century Ireland: a woman with no husband or family and without work would face a bleak life of poverty and loneliness. Albert, a shy butler who keeps himself to himself, has been hiding a deep secret for years – ‘he’ is a woman who has had to dress and behave as a man all her life in order to escape this fate. When handsome painter Hubert Page arrives at the hotel, Albert is inspired to try and escape the false life she has created for herself. She gathers her nerves to court beautiful, saucy young maid Helen in whom she thinks she’s found a soul-mate – but Helen’s eye is on a new arrival: handsome, bad-boy Joe, the new handy-man! As Albert dares to hope that she might one day live a normal life, we catch a glimpse of a free-spirited woman who is caught in the wrong time… This humorous but ultimately poignant ensemble story about life ‘below-stairs’ is nothing less than Gosford Park meets Boys Don’t Cry.
