Anthony Hopkins Interview THE RITE; Plus Updates on THOR, 360, Composing Music, Painting, and a lot More

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 26th, 2011

Opening next weekend is director Mikael Hafstroem’s (1408) supernatural thriller The Rite and it stars Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Toby Jones. “Inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.”  For more on the film, watch some clips here.
I recently got to participate in a roundtable interview with Hopkins.  During the extended interview, Hopkins talked about what drew him to this project, how does he work with directors as most could be intimidated, how is he so good at scaring people, upcoming projects like Thor and 360, and he also talked about painting, composing music, and so much more.  Hit the jump to read or listen to what he had to say:

Will Smith and Jay-Z Team-Up for ANNIE Remake

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 26th, 2011

It’s official: the Will Smith/Jay-Z Annie remake is going into production.  One week ago, we reported that the pair were in talks to revamp the classic property as a starring vehicle for Smith’s daughter Willow.  At that time, however, it was believed that Jay-Z’s contribution would be confined to the film’s music.  The press release we received today, though, confirms that the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” will team-up with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment as a co-producer on the project.  In addition to Overbrook and Jay-Z’s (a.k.a. Shawn Carter) involvement, Sony Pictures Entertainment will help develop the Annie remake.

Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS Moves to June 8, 2012; Scott Brothers Set to Produce THE DRIVERS

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 26th, 2011

20th Century Fox has changed the release date for Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi film Prometheus.  Heat Vision confirms that the project, originally slated for a March 9th release, will now hit theaters on June 8th, 2012.  Although details regarding the film are currently sparse, we do know that Damon Lindelof (LostCowboys & Aliens) is currently re-working the script with Scott and that Noomi Rapace is set to star in the summer tentpole.
For the sake of context, it’s important to mention that news of Prometheus release date change comes not far removed from Disney’s announcement that its John Carter of Mars adaptation is now set for a March 9th release.  As for Scott, in addition to Prometheus, it was reported earlier today that he and brother Tony are using their Scott Free moniker to produce a 1960s period television series entitled The Drivers.  For more on that project, hit the jump.

***New Trailer for THE RITE Starring Anthony Hopkins ***THE HANGOVER PART II, THE IDES OF MARCH, CONTRABAND, THE DOOR, CITY OF BONES, and SO UNDERCOVER Fill Out Casts

New Trailer for THE RITE Starring Anthony Hopkins

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: December 9th, 2010

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for The Rite, a supernatural thriller purported to be inspired by true events.  As scripted by Michael Petroni (Possession), The Rite tells the story of a seminary student attending “exorcism school” at the Vatican: “While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.”
Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Toby Jones star in The Rite, directed by Mikael Håfström (1408).  Hit the jump for the trailer and synopsis.
I think it’s a bit unfortunate that so many of the films that are explicitly about religion use it for the purpose of horror.  That said, Hopkins is a great get, and it looks like he has plenty of scenery to chew.  If this is your type of flick, I pray The Rite brings you abundant joy when it opens on January 28, 2011.

THE HANGOVER PART II, THE IDES OF MARCH, CONTRABAND, THE DOOR, CITY OF BONES, and SO UNDERCOVER Fill Out Casts

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 9th, 2010

With production in Hollywood getting ready to shut down for the holidays, agents all over town are scrambling to finalize last-minute deals for their clients. Hence, tons of casting news was released today.
Max Minghella, who played Divya (the Winklevoss twins’ third partner) in The Social Network, is set to star as Ben Harper in George Clooney’s The Ides of March. Clooney wrote, will direct, and stars in the political drama alongside Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.
Hit the jump for many more casting announcements for The Door, The Hangover Part II, City of Bones, Contraband, and So Undercover.
Deadline reports Alison Eastwood (yes, Clint’s daughter) and Dallas Roberts (3:10 to Yuma) will star in the psychological thriller The Door. Directed by Matthew Arnold, the film centers on a radio talk show host (Roberts), who gets drawn into exploring paranormal activity and crosses paths with Eastwood’s character, who is sent by the Center for Disease Control to investigate a possible virus.
Comedian Bryan Callen, who played the owner of the wedding chapel in The Hangover, has joined the cast of the currently-filming The Hangover Part II as a strip club owner.  Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha return for the sequel, set in Thailand.
Lily Collins (The Blind Side) is set to star in City of Bones, an adaptation of the first installment in the book series, Mortal Instruments. The film is directed by Scott Charles. Collins has been busy, as she has Priest with Paul Bettany, and Abduction with Taylor Lautner coming out next year.
Actor Caleb Landry Jones (The Last Exorcism) has joined the cast of Mark Wahlberg’s Contraband. He joins Kate Beckinsale, Ben Foster, and Giovanni Ribisi in the flick, and will play the brother-in-law of a retired smuggler (Wahlberg) who is forced to do one more job after a screw-up. Jones is currently filming his role as Banshee in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.
British actor Joshua Bowman joins the cast of Miley Cyrus’ latest movie (sigh). The film is called So Undercover, and Bowman plays Cryus’ love interest, who I can only assume shows her how the differences between Brits and “country girls” make for some great comedy and heartfelt moments.
