by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: January 26th, 2011
Opening next weekend is director Mikael Hafstroem’s (1408) supernatural thriller The Rite and it stars Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Toby Jones. “Inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith.” For more on the film, watch some clips here.
I recently got to participate in a roundtable interview with Hopkins. During the extended interview, Hopkins talked about what drew him to this project, how does he work with directors as most could be intimidated, how is he so good at scaring people, upcoming projects like Thor and 360, and he also talked about painting, composing music, and so much more. Will Smith and Jay-Z Team-Up for ANNIE Remake
by Jason Barr Posted: January 26th, 2011
It’s official: the Will Smith/Jay-Z Annie remake is going into production. One week ago, we reported that the pair were in talks to revamp the classic property as a starring vehicle for Smith’s daughter Willow. At that time, however, it was believed that Jay-Z’s contribution would be confined to the film’s music. The press release we received today, though, confirms that the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” will team-up with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment as a co-producer on the project. In addition to Overbrook and Jay-Z’s (a.k.a. Shawn Carter) involvement, Sony Pictures Entertainment will help develop the Annie remake.

Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS Moves to June 8, 2012; Scott Brothers Set to Produce THE DRIVERS
by Jason Barr Posted: January 26th, 2011
20th Century Fox has changed the release date for Ridley Scott’s original sci-fi film Prometheus. Heat Vision confirms that the project, originally slated for a March 9th release, will now hit theaters on June 8th, 2012. Although details regarding the film are currently sparse, we do know that Damon Lindelof (Lost, Cowboys & Aliens) is currently re-working the script with Scott and that Noomi Rapace is set to star in the summer tentpole.
For the sake of context, it’s important to mention that news of Prometheus‘ release date change comes not far removed from Disney’s announcement that its John Carter of Mars adaptation is now set for a March 9th release. As for Scott, in addition to Prometheus, it was reported earlier today that he and brother Tony are using their Scott Free moniker to produce a 1960s period television series entitled The Drivers. For more on that project, hit the jump.
