Tony Todd Says FINAL DESTINATION 6 and 7 Shooting Back-to-Back
by Matt Goldberg Posted: February 1st, 2011
As long as there’s an audience for elaborate murdergasms, the Final Destination franchise should be a success. The fifth installment (thankfully no longer titled “5nal Destination“) is due out in 3D on August 26th and actor Tony Todd, who is returning to the series, says that if it opens at #1, they’ll shoot parts 6 and 7 back-to-back . Here’s what Todd told Dread Central:
“Thumbs up! Thumbs way up. They expanded my part, and the producer told me as we were leaving Vancouver that if it opens at Number 1 – which statistically it has – they’re going to shoot the next two simultaneously.”
Final Destination 5’s opening disaster will involve a bridge collapse. I’m sure by the time we reach Final Destination 7, the inciting event will involve a slick patch of ice in the main character’s driveway.
Kristen Bell Moves into Showtime’s HOUSE OF LIES with Don Cheadle
by Ethan Anderton Posted: February 1st, 2011
Last December we heard that Don Cheadle signed on to star in their dark comedy series House of Lies from Matthew Carnahan, creator and writer of the FX series Dirt. Based on Martin Kihn’s book of the same name, the half-hour comedy follows Marty (Cheadle), a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want. Now Showtime has announced that Kristen Bell, who first made waves on TV as Veronica Mars, has landed the role of Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a razor-sharp, Ivy-League graduate who works at Marty’s firm. Stephen Hopkins is directing the pilot with production beginning this month, so we’ll be looking forward to checking the show out later this year.
Baz Luhrmann May Not Direct THE GREAT GATSBY?
by Matt Goldberg Posted: February 1st, 2011
Baz Luhrmann may be reconsidering an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Speaking to Vulture at the DGA Awards on Saturday, Luhrmann said he has to “make a decision in three days’ time,” on “Whether to do it or not.” Only a few weeks ago it looked like a “Go” project with filming expected to begin this summer and Carey Mulligan attached to play Daisy. Luhrmann was even considering whether or not to make the movie in 3D. The director had been previously work-shopping the film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in the roles of Gatsby and Nick Carraway, respectively.
Luhrmann says “I think I’ve been a bit shaded out because I want everything to be perfectly positioned on it,” and that we should expect news on the project “by the end of the week.” Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel.
First Trailer and Images for BRIDESMAIDS Starring Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph
by Matt Goldberg Posted: February 1st, 2011
I have high hopes for Bridesmaids. Kristen Wiig is poised for a star-making role (she also co-wrote the script), Judd Apatow is producing, and Freaks and Geeks creator/director Paul Feig is helming. The first trailer for the movie has gone online and it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The jokes about Wiig’s character being single are pretty stale, but there’s a charming tone of raunchiness and attitude. Clearly they’re trying to sell it to Apatow’s male fans, but I’m on board for a female ensemble comedy that looks like the polar opposite of what we usually see from the genre.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer plus high-res images from the film. Bridesmaids also stars Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, and Jon Hamm. The film opens May 13th.
