Josh Duhamel Picks Up NEW YEAR’S EVE
by Jason Barr Posted: January 27th, 2011
Josh Duhamel (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) has been added to the mega-ensemble cast that makes up director Garry Marshall’s forthcoming rom-com New Year’s Eve. News of Duhamel’s casting came last night, courtesy of TheWrap, although no details were divulged about his role. Considering the sheer number of actors already present in the film, it’s possible that Duhamel is just an extra and that literally every person in front of Marshall’s camera at any given moment will be a name actor of some caliber. It’s not likely, but the other possibility is that the film will be a ten-hour epic only matched in scale by Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. I’ll let you decide which you think is more plausible.
To date, the New Year’s Eve cast includes Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Halle Berry, Jessical Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hilary Swank, Zac Efron, Sienna Miller, Lea Michelle, Sofia Vergara, Abigail Breslin, Germany’s own Til Schweiger, Seth Meyes, Jon Bon Jovi, and…Josh Duhamel. The film opens later this year on December 9th.
Judi Dench Confirms She’ll Return as M in BOND 23
by Jason Barr Posted: January 27th, 2011
Here’s a bit of casting news that may come as no surprise (although it’s certainly welcome nonetheless): Dame Judi Dench has confirmed that she will be reprising her role as M in the upcoming James Bond film, Bond 23. Bond fansite MI6 reports that Dench recently confirmed her involvement in the project while receiving an outstanding achievement award at the South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
Bond 23 will mark Dench’s seventh turn as M (beginning with 1995’s Goldeneye). Directed by Sam Mendes, from a script by John Logan, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade, Bond 23 will of course also star Daniel Craig and is scheduled to hit theaters on November 9th, 2012.
Trailer and Poster for BEGINNERS
by Jason Barr Posted: January 27th, 2011
The trailer for writer/director Mike Mills’ (Thumbsucker) comedy/drama Beginners has landed online. Starring Ewan McGregor, Oscar-nominee Christopher Plummer (The Last Station), and Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Bastards), Beginners follows a man named Oliver (McGregor) as he meets Anna (Laurent) and proceeds to reflect on the lessons taught to him by his late father (Plummer). I heard very good things about Beginners after it screened at TIFF and this sentimentally charming trailer (and delightfully simplistic poster) does little to undercut that praise.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and synopsis. Beginners hits select theaters this summer on June 3rd.

Saoirse Ronan Cast in THE HOBBIT
by Adam Chitwood Posted: January 27th, 2011
How about some good news regarding The Hobbit? Earlier today, we reported that the ever-troubled production of J.R.R. Tolkein’s classic has hit another bump in the road in the form of director Peter Jackson’s recent ulcer causing a slight delay in filming. Well now, we have something positive to report regarding the project. It appears that actress Saoirse Ronan (Atonement), who worked with Jackson on The Lovely Bones, will be a part of The Hobbit cast after all. In an interview with IFTN (via TheOneRing.net), one of the casting directors on the film spilled the beans about Ronan’s involvement:
“And working with Peter Jackson is like working with a family. So they’ll have a great time. Saoirse’s family will go too, everyone is very close and very loving on those sorts of jobs. It’s not like typical studio movies at all.”
The casting director also stated most of the cast is already out in New Zealand now, with production on the two-part adaptation set to begin in the next couple of weeks. Ronan’s a fantastic actress, and her addition to the ever-growing cast list of The Hobbit films is definitely good news. The Hobbit Part I is scheduled to be released in December 2012, with The Hobbit Part II set to follow in December 2013.
