**Filming Begins on RENEE Starring Chad Michael Murray, Kat Dennings and Rupert Friend **Check Out a Behind the Scenes Featurette for TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT

Filming Begins on RENEE Starring Chad Michael Murray, Kat Dennings and Rupert Friend

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 24th, 2011

Filming has quietly begun in Florida on the indie drama Renee. Starring Chad Michael Murray, Kat Dennings, Rupert Friend (Pride and Predjudice) and Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), the film tells the true story of Renne Yohe, whose depression/addiction led to the creation of the charity organization To Write Love on Her Arms. Here’s what to expect from the film, per the press release:
The story follows 19-year-old Renee (played by Kat Dennings) who has always loved fairy tales: the idea of a princess, a hero and a happily ever after. But Renee’s life is that of a darker tale:  she’s a young woman battling addiction, depression and self-injury.  In a creative blend of artistic fantasy balanced with harsh reality, the movie follows Renee on her courageous journey towards recovery.
Nathan Frankowski (the Ben Stein “intelligent design” documentary Expelled) directs from a script he co-wrote with Kate King Lynch. The film will be told in juxtaposition between “gritty realities and rich fantasies”, with music appearances by Rachel Yamagata and Travie McCoy (Gym Class Heroes).  Hit the jump for the full press release.

Check Out a Behind the Scenes Featurette for TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT

by Jason Barr    Posted: February 24th, 2011

A behind the scenes featurette for the upcoming comedy Take Me Home Tonight has landed online. Directed by Michael Dowse, the film stars Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, and Chris Pratt. The comedy is set in 1988 and features a recent MIT grad (Grace) who makes a move on his high school crush (Palmer), steals a car, and embarks on numerous other misadventures all in the course of one night. While it very well may have a lot more going for it, I plan on catching the film for no other reason than its nostalgia-ridden 80s soundtrack. Here’s to hoping A-ha’s classic “Take on Me” makes an appearance.
Hit the jump to check out the featurette. Take Me Home Tonight hits theaters next week on March 4th. ................

A red-band trailer for Take Me Home Tonight has gone online.  If you were thinking, “I want to see this movie, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to enjoy it if they don’t say ‘fuck’ and there aren’t any naked breasts,” then worry not!  They say “fuck”, there are naked breasts, and that’s all you need for a cinematic masterpiece.
Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer.  Take Me Home Tonight stars Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Dan Fogler.  It opens March 4th.

As a part of the ramp up to the unveiling of the first trailer for Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America during the Super Bowl on Sunday, the first poster for the film has been released. Starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan and Hayley Atwell, the film will hit theaters on July 22nd in 3D. Featuring the tagline “Avenge”, the poster is equal parts gritty and enticing. As an introduction to the character/film, I’d say they hit it spot-on. Hit the jump to check out the full poster for yourself.

New Images of SPIDER-MAN Costume and His Rotted Codpiece

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 4th, 2011

The more I see of the new Spider-Man costume, the less I like it.  Granted, I need to see how it performs in action, but these new set photos don’t bode well for the final picture.  The costume makes Spidey look like a cross between an extra-terrestrial and venetian blinds.  Of course it’s likely that some CG work will be done on it between now and release so I don’t want to be too harsh on the design.  However, I’m baffled as to why Spider-Man’s junk looks like it’s rotting off.
We also have a good look at the spider emblem on Spidey’s back.  Like the spider on the front of the costume, the designer clearly thought “Spiders’ legs are gigantic.  Let’s do something with that.”  Hit the jump to check out new images of the costume.  Marc Webb’s untitled Spider-Man reboot stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Rhys Ifans.  It’s due out in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Sam Davis (Michael Angarano) convinces his former best friend to spend a weekend with him to rekindle their friendship at an elegant beachside estate owned by a famous documentary filmmaker (Lee Pace). But it soon becomes clear that Sam is secretly infatuated with the filmmaker’s fiancee, Zoe (Uma Thurman), and that his true intention is to thwart their impending nuptials. Until the Academy loosens up about bullets, boobs, and inexplicable Nicolas Cage hairpieces, we can only dream of a fantastical world where Drive Angry 3D has a shot at Best Picture nomination.  Still, the marketing folks behind the movie decided to have a little laugh and give the movie a red-band trailer with all of the prestige of an Oscar film and none of the dignity.

We’ve been sent two exclusive stills from the upcoming 80s flick Take Me Home Tonight.  The film stars Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, Dan Fogler, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Chris Pratt.  I’m a big fan of this cast, especially Pratt whose lovable performance as dimwit Andy Dwyer is one of the many reasons you should be watching Parks and Recreation.

Naomi Watts in Talks to Star in Werner Herzog’s QUEEN OF THE DESERT

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: February 3rd, 2011

Naomi Watts is in “serious discussions” with director Werner Herzog to star in his upcoming film Queen of the Desert.  According to Vulture, the story is based on the life of British woman Gertrude Bell, “who was alternately a traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century. While only a commoner herself, Bell was nonetheless a kingmaker, helping found the modern states of Iraq and Jordan and installing their first rulers, King Abdullah and King Faisal.”
Watts is currently filming The Impossible with Ewan McGregor, which follows a family in Thailand during the 2004 tsunami.  After that, she’s moving on to costar in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar.  Vulture reports that once she wraps on that film, she’ll take a short break and likely move on to Queen of the Desert.

***Topher Grace Says Featuring Heavy Cocaine Use Was the Reason for Delay of TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT ***First Teaser Trailer for Kevin Smith’s RED STATE

Topher Grace Says Featuring Heavy Cocaine Use Was the Reason for Delay of TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 23rd, 2010

The 80s comedy Take Me Home Tonight has had a long road to the screen.  Originally titled, Kids in America, the film wrapped shooting back in 2007 and is now set for release on March 4, 2011.  The film centers on a recent MIT grad (Topher Grace) who gets invited, along with his best friend (Dan Fogler) and twin sister (Anna Faris), to an epic, end-of-summer 1988 party by his high-school crush (Teresa Palmer).  That doesn’t sound like such a tough sell…except for all the cocaine.  Grace, who’s also a producer on the film, explained to MTV:
“It tested really well.  It’s an audience film. It’s not drama, but there was a real hesitation because there is so much cocaine in it, and our feeling at the time was, ‘You can’t do a movie about Prohibition without alcohol, and you really can’t do a movie about partying in the ’80s, at the age these kids are, without showing cocaine use.”
Hit the jump to learn how Take Me Home Tonight was rescued from release limbo.
Grace says that Imagine Entertainment and producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard saved the film from an eternity of sitting on a shelf (or going straight to DVD):
“We had fun producing, but those guys are the real deal. We learned a lot from them, and they’re probably the greatest producers of our time. So, they encouraged us to not change the cut, which I thought was a really cool move.”
I’m a big fan of Grace, Fogler, and Faris (I’ve only seen Palmer in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and she didn’t have much to do) so hopefully this will be a solid comedy that stands on its own and not just That 80s Movie.  I do think it’s silly that the film would have to sit on the shelf for so long simply because it shows people in the 80s doing cocaine.  It’s not like the film’s original title was Cocaine Is Awesome and Everyone Should Totally Do Iti.  That would be slightly controversial.
Here’s the official synopsis for Take Me Home Tonight:
As the summer of 1988 winds down, three friends on the verge of adulthood attend an out-of-control party in celebration of their last night of unbridled youth. Starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler and Teresa Palmer, Take Me Home Tonight is a raunchy, romantic and ultimately touching blast from the past set to an awesome soundtrack of timeless rock and hip-hop hits. Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams. With his cynical twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) and best friend Barry (Dan Fogler), Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening. From stealing a car to a marriage proposal to an indescribable, no-holds-barred dance-off, these friends share experiences that will change the course of their lives on one unforgettable night in the Go-Go ’80s.

First Teaser Trailer for Kevin Smith’s RED STATE

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted:December 23rd, 2010

Kevin Smith has released the first teaser trailer for his upcoming horror movie Red State.  Premiering at next month’s Sundance Film Festival, Red State is a huge departure for Smith as the flick is about “a group of misfits [who] encounter extreme fundamentalism in Middle America.”  The film stars Michael Parks, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, John Goodman, Melissa Leo, Kevin Pollak, Anna Gunn, Stephen Root, and Smith’s Hit Somebody lead Nicholas Braun.  Parks is said to play a Fred Phelps-type preacher who leads a family of followers.
If you’ve been following the development of Red State, you know Smith had a really tough time getting the financing together due to the difficult subject matter.  And after watching the trailer, I can see why.  Red State looks nothing like his previous films and I’m definitely catching this at the first press screening at Sundance.  While I loved Smith’s first few films, I’ve been very disappointed with his recent output.  And his attitude about critics hasn’t helped his cause.  Saying all that, I’d love for him to rebound with Red State.  Judge the trailer for yourself after the jump.
Here’s the synopsis via Sundance:
Ever since Clerks (cowinner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre.
Red State begins by following three horny high-school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.
Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, Smith meticulously fashions all-too-real characters, utilizing exceptional performances (notably by Michael Parks) and an intelligent script. His realistic style gives the film an intimate feeling, heightening the terror to biblical proportions. Red State is a shocking new kind of horror film that aggressively confronts higher powers and extreme doctrines with a vengeance.

Nicolas Cage Is a Master Thief in MEDALLION

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: December 14th, 2010

Nicolas Cage has signed on to star in Medallion, an action thriller not dissimilar to 2008’s Taken.  The story centers on “a former master thief (Cage), who has only a few hours to find his daughter when she is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a New York medallion taxi cab.”  Simon West (When a Stranger Calls) is on board as director with a script from David Guggenheim.
The project has making the rounds for a while.  Heat Vision links Clive Owen and Jason Statham to the lead role in prior iterations.  Medallion represents a reunion between West and Cage, who last teamed for Con Air in 1997.
Hit the jump for a look at Cage’s upcoming slate.
  • Season of the Witch: 14th-century knights (played by Cage and Ron Perlman) must transport a suspected witch (Claire Foy) to a monastery (January 7, 2011)
  • Drive Angry: a 3D revenge flick which co-stars Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke, and David Morse (February 11, 2011)
  • Hungry Rabbit Jumps: Cage becomes entangled with an underground vigilante organization after his wife (January Jones) is the victim of a brutal crime
  • Trespass: a wealthy husband and wife (Cage and Nicole Kidman) fall victim to a home invasion
  • Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance: the sequel to the 2007 comic book film; Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) will direct
West’s next film, The Mechanic, hits theaters January 28, 2011.

TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT Trailer and Poster

by Max Lichtig    Posted: December 14th, 2010

The trailer and poster for Take Me Home Tonight have been released.  Set in 1988, the film follows Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) through a crazy Labor Day weekend party as he chases after the girl of his dreams while encountering some bumps along the way (classic formula for a quasi-spiritual coming of age comedy). The trailer’s soundtrack was enough to get me excited, but I’ve also got a feeling that this film might prove to be more than just a Garden State set in the 80’s.  Take Me Home Tonight also stars Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt, Michelle Trachtenberg, Lucy Punch, Michael Ian Black, and Demetri Martin.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer and a synopsis of the film:
