Trailer for BEAUTIFUL BOY Starring Michael Sheen and Maria Bello
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 15th, 2011

A trailer for the indie drama Beautiful Boy has gone online. The story takes the unique perspective of focusing on the parents (played by Michael Sheen and Maria Bello) of a young man who went on a shooting spree on his college campus and then killed himself. Usually, the approach to a senseless tragedy such as that is to blame the parents, and then the tragedy somehow makes sense: better parents means better kid means no shooting spree and we can go back to pretending that the world is not a random series of uncontrollable events. I have hope that Shawn Ku’s film, which played at last year’s Toronto Film Festival, will handle its subject matter with maturity and insight. Having Sheen and Bello as the leads is already a great sign.

New Trailer for BRIDESMAIDS Starring Kristen Wiig
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 15th, 2011

I’m so happy that buzz I’m hearing on Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids out of SXSW is positive otherwise this trailer would have me mildly concerned about the film. Judging the film based solely on the new trailer, the humor mostly seems to revolve around Kristen Wiig being a neurotic single woman who drinks a lot. While I’m confident that Wiig has the charm and comic timing to carry a movie, this trailer doesn’t sell me on a film that my peers are celebrating.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Bridesmaids also stars Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy and Jon Hamm. The film opens May 13th.

John Hawkes to Star in Indie Drama SURROGATE
by Matt Goldberg Posted: March 15th, 2011
John Hawkes has been tapped to star in Ben Lewin’s indie drama Surrogate. Per Variety, the story “is based on the life of Mark O’Brien, a poet and journalist who, after spending most of his life with an iron lung as a result of polio, decides to explore his sexuality. He hires a sex surrogate and soon develops a relationship that changes both of their lives.” And this is an independent feature?! I can’t believe a studio wouldn’t want to make this.

I’ve been a big fan of Hawkes for a while and with his recent Oscar nomination for Winter’s Bone, I think he’s about to breakout in a big way. He’ll next be seen in supporting roles in Vera Farmiga’s Higher Ground, Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, and the excellent Martha Marcy May Marlene.

Alec Baldwin Leaves MEN IN BLACK III
by Jason Barr Posted: March 15th, 2011
If it weren’t for bad news, there would be no news emitting from Sony Pictures’ beleaguered Men in Black III production. In fact, director Barry Sonnenfeld’s third installment in the franchise has encountered so many problems since its production began last November that we were actually capable of putting together an article devoted entirely to discussing said issues. Ouch. True to form, MIB has now taken another hit as purported co-star Alec Baldwin has left the production altogether. In a recent interview with Vulture, Baldwin made quick work of his exit saying, “I’m not doing that. I’m out of it; the schedule didn’t work out.”

As for the role Baldwin leaves behind, the actor was slated to play the head of the “MIB” in 1969 during the portions of the film in which Will Smith travels to the era in an attempt to save the young Agent K (Josh Brolin). There is currently no word on who will replace Baldwin in the role. In spite of all of its hardships, the film is scheduled to resume production on March 28th and is still looking at a May 25, 2012 release. The release date for the Oscar-worthy, underdog tale that documents all of Men in Black III’s obstacles on the road to release has yet to be announced. That said, I hear its production is going splendidly.

***Teaser Trailer for CINEMA VERITE Starring Tim Robbins, Diane Lane, and James Gandolfini ***Scoot McNairy Set for a Lead Role in COGAN’S TRADE; In Consideration for PROMETHEUS and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER ***TV Casting: Michael Emerson is a PERSON OF INTEREST, Maria Bello is a PRIME SUSPECT, and James Van Der Beek Playing Himself in New Pilot

Scoot McNairy Set for a Lead Role in COGAN’S TRADE; In Consideration for PROMETHEUS and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: February 16th, 2011

The already impressive cast of Andrew Dominik’s (The Assassination of Jesse James) Cogan’s Trade has added one more. Scoot McNairy, star of Gareth Edwards’ low-budge Monsters has nabbed one of the lead roles in the flick alongside Brad Pitt. Other castmembers include James Gandolfini, Sam Rockwell, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, Ray Liotta, Bella Heathcote, and Richard Jenkins. The story of Cogan’s Trade revolves around a mob enforcer (Pitt) who must investigate the robbery of a high-stakes poker game. Filming is set to get underway later this month in New Orleans.

Deadline’s report that McNairy joins Cogan’s Trade also points out that the actor is in high demand. He’s in contention for a role in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and is circling the role of Josh Speed in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. No telling how he plans to fit all of that into his schedule should he land all of these roles, but it sure would be quite a ride. Cogan’s Trade is set to be released sometime in 2012.

Teaser Trailer for CINEMA VERITE Starring Tim Robbins, Diane Lane, and James Gandolfini

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: February 16th, 2011

HBO has dominated the TV movie for ages.  The network has won the last 7 Emmys for Outstanding Made for TV Movie, not to mention 16 of the last 19.  But it’s not the sexiest format, so HBO’s efforts do a much better job at boosting the Emmy total than my actual interest in the network, no matter how solid Temple Grandin was.

Yet something about Cinema Verite stands out.  The cast is teriffic, featuring Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, James Gandolfini, Patrick Fugit — but that’s not it.  HBO telepics always have great casts.  I’m drawn in by the story, a look behind the scenes of the 1973 documentary An American Family, which chronicled the lives of the Loud family and effectively birthed the reality TV genre.  The first teaser trailer, which makes excellent use of “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & the Papas, does not disappoint.  Watch it after the jump.

TV Casting: Michael Emerson is a PERSON OF INTEREST, Maria Bello is a PRIME SUSPECT, and James Van Der Beek Playing Himself in New Pilot

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: February 17th, 2011

Though we’d heard J.J. Abrams was looking to reunite Lost stars Michael Emerson and Terry O’Quinn with Odd Jobs, the series has apparently been pushed back until the next development season in 2012. However, it looks like Emerson will still be working with Abrams this season as Deadline reports the actor will lead Bad Robot’s drama Person of Interest which has been set up at CBS. The proposed series is said to follow an ex-CIA agent, presumed dead, who teams up with a mysterious billionaire (Emerson) to prevent violent crimes in New York City. David Semel (Heroes) will direct the pilot which we’ll hopefully be seeing later this year.

For news on other TV casting with James Van Der Beek and Maria Bello, hit the jump.

Maria Bello Hot Gossips

I am a little pedestrian in my film taste. I like to be amused, Maria in a refreshing way honest that Bello admits while on the whole of it the last film. If I read a manuscript and if I find it displacement, if I it has large people and a marvellous director and it are well written and it is a marvellous part, it finds does not import if it is a comedy or an action or a drama. While it took roles out of films as various as the mom: The tomb of the emperor of dragon, ugly coyote and a history of violence, perhaps the talent of Bello will shine more luminous in one of its smaller projects, downloading Nancy, which are placed to open this weekend. Guttural, weakening and vintage, character of Bello in film, Nancy, battles leaning with the individual-badly in the borders of his marriage without love in the suburbs.Incompetent to handle the trauma of his past, Nancy takes with the Internet to find the assistance for a helped suicide. There it finds Louis, who promises to carry out the murder during a sexual meeting.
