Awesome New Image from THE HANGOVER PART II

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: January 14th, 2011

The-Hangover-2-image-The-Hangover-Part-2-image-slice
Even though The Hangover Part II is just five months away from release, we’re still pretty much in the dark on the film. There’s no trailer, a very brief synopsis, and only one official image has been released—until now. The latest issue of EW features a new image of Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms from the film, but it’s a little low-resolution. Not to fear—we’ve landed the high-resolution version of the image which features our first look at Ed Helms’ Mike Tyson-esque face tattoo.  If that alone doesn’t make you want to buy a ticket right now, something’s seriously wrong with you. Hit the jump to check out the full image.
I think this image is great. There are so many different WTF? things happening in just one still, and Galifianakis’ shirt is simply perfect. Does Helms’ tattoo signify that he and Mike Tyson have some serious bonding time in the sequel? Tyson’s name appears in the cast list, so we at least know that he’s showing up in some capacity. However, I’m really trying to stay away from cameo spoilers as it’s so much more fun to discover them when watching the film for the first time.
The Hangover Part II just wrapped shooting in Thailand. For those wondering when we’ll get some footage, a source tells us to expect a teaser trailer next month. The film hits theaters on May 26th. Here’s the image, click for hi-res:

First Images of Dennis Leary as Captain George Stacy in Marc Webb’s SPIDER-MAN

by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub    Posted: January 14th, 2011

With Spider-Man currently filming on location in Los Angeles, we’re able to get our first look at Dennis Leary as Captain George Stacy.  While not as exciting as the first look at Andrew Garfield in costume as Spider-Man, they’re still cool to see.
While many of you might have wondered why Sony chose yesterday to reveal a first look at the costume, I’m guessing that it has to do with what they’re getting ready to film in the next week or two.  If I was about to shoot on location with Garfield in costume as Spider-Man, I’d want to release the first image beforehand so the first time everyone sees the costume it looks perfect.  If I’m right, expect some on location images of the Spider-Man costume in action very soon… Until then, hit the jump for more looks at Leary as Captain George Stacy.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but everything I’ve seen and read leads me to believe that the reboot of Spider-Man is going to be great.  The only negative thing I can say is that it sucks we have to wait until July 3, 2012 to see the movie.  By the time that date rolls around, they could be filming the sequel!  At least this summer, at Comic-Con, we’ll get to see some footage. What do you all think of the images so far?

Cool Posters for THE HAUNTING, WINTER’S BONE, SOURCE CODE and More

I’m a movie poster dork and I always like seeing what various artists do when creating posters for movies they enjoy or are looking forward to.  The folks at Phantom City Creative have done some pretty sweet work by creating three posters dedicated to the film’s of director Robert Wise: The Body Snatcher, The Haunting, and The Andromeda Strain.  Each of their posters is limited to an edition of 113, measures 11×17, and costs $30 (plus shipping) or $75 (plus shipping) if you buy all three posters together.
Moving on, artist Sam Smith designed posters for his ten favorite films of 2010 and came up with some really stunning work.  I particularly love his posters for Winter’s Bone and Toy Story 3.  Finally, Lloyd Stas, whose work we featured last week when he designed posters for the work of Edgar Wright, has taken a stab at Duncan Jones’ upcoming film Source Code.  Hit the jump to check out all of the posters.

First Set Photos of Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy in SPIDER-MAN Reboot

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: December 9th, 2010

Earlier this week, we got our first look at Emma Stone sporting her new blonde hairstyle as she walked the red carpet at the Trevor Live event.  Stone changed her hair color because she’s playing Gwen Stacy in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot.  Now set photos of Stone as Gwen Stacy have leaked online.  The source also identifies what’s happening in the scene that was being filmed.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos, minor spoilers about the scene being filmed, and my major speculation.  The untitled Spider-Man reboot also stars Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen.  It’s set to open in 3D on July 3, 2012.

The photos are from Just Jared.  The site reports that the scene being filmed is a funeral and takes place in the rain in front of a cathedral.  So who is Gwen mourning?  My guess is that it’s her father, George Stacy (who’s being played by Denis Leary).  In the comics, George Stacy dies while saving a child from falling debris and Gwen blames Spider-Man (even though George is an admirer of the web-slinger).

MEN IN BLACK III Set Photos: Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Emma Thompson, and Nicole Scherzinger

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted:November 17th, 2010

Today brings photos of Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Emma Thompson, and Nicole Scherzinger on the set of Men in Black III.  James Brolin, Jemaine Clement, and Rip Torn also star, with Gemma Arterton, Alec Baldwin, and Sharlto Copley rumored for small roles.  The plot reportedly revolves around the villain Yaz (Clement) travelling back in time to assassinate Agent Kay, which sets off a chain of events that will destroy the Earth.
The sequel started filming this week in advance of a May 25, 2012 3D release.  Hit the jump to see the images.
Nothing too revelatory (Thompson’s MIB agent will wear… a black suit!), save for maybe Scherzinger’s Leia-esque hairstyle.  But this is Day 2.  We’ll get the juicy looks soon enough.  I’m excited to see Clement in costume as the extraterrestrial Boris, though perhaps the more interesting aspects of his character design will be added in post-production.

Denis Leary to Play George Stacy in SPIDER-MAN Reboot

by Matt Currie    Posted: November 17th, 2010

Yes, director Marc Webb’s reboot of Spider-Man just got a little angrier. According to Heat Vision, Denis Leary, the popular Rescue Me actor and admitted asshole (seriously, he wrote a song about it), is about to step into the role of George Stacy, police captain and father of main Spidey squeeze Gwen Stacy.
Leary joins a cast that already includes Andrew Garfield as the titular web-slinger, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors (a.k.a The Lizard), Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, and Sally Field as Aunt May. The as-yet-untitled flick is slated for release in 2012. Hit the jump for more on what you can expect out of George Stacy.

At this point, we know very little about what Webb and writers James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent have cooked up, other than that it will skew younger and likely take its cue from the more recent Ultimate Spider-Man comics, which could be bad news for Peter Parker.
In the classic comics, George Stacy is a big supporter of Spider-Man, particularly his efforts to get with his daughter. In the Ultimate universe (where he’s known as “John” and has family troubles), not quite as enthused, and given Leary’s trademark acerbic shtick, you have to think that young Peter Parker might just be in for an uphill climb to win dad’s approval.
It’s also worth noting that in both the classic and Ultimate storylines, Stacy bites the dust as collateral damage in a Spidey-involved incident. In the former, he sacrifices himself to save a child from a chunk of debris knocked loose in a Spider-Man/Doc Ock showdown; in the latter, he’s blown away saving another child from the havoc wrought by a Spidey impersonator, understandably nudging his daughter into the J. Jonah Jameson school of thought on the webslinger.
How much the character will resemble either version, we don’t know. But either way, I’m looking forward to some crackling repartee between Stone and Leary.
