New Trailer for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Fox has released a new trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. There’s a lot of good new footage and snippets of dialogue in this trailer. I’m still not sure how The Hellfire Club factors into the story, but I liked a lot of what the trailer has to show. We get a better look at the relationship between Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and there’s a much darker tone to the relationship between Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) as opposed to previous trailers which seemed to position Magneto more as a tragic figure. Fingers crossed that all these storylines and characters come together in a quality film.Hit the jump to check out the trailer. We just had Ron Livingston join the cast of HBO’s political drama film Game Change, but now we have a few new cast members and our first look at another cast member in full wardrobe as a familiar vice presidential candidate. As you can see, that’s Julianne Moore all dressed up as John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin. As for our new cast members, Deadline reports Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), Peter MacNicol (24) and Justin Gaston (The Escapee) have joined the cast while THR reports Larry Sullivan (CSI), Jamey Sheridan (Trauma) and Melissa Farman (Temple Grandin) will also star in the film. We recently learned that Pineapple Express and Your Highness director David Gordon Green would write and direct a new pilot called Black Jack for Comedy Central. At the time, the official order for the pilot was contingent on who would be cast in the lead role, but now Deadline reports Ving Rhames has taken the part and that clause has been lifted. The new comedy series will follow Rhames as the title character who after 20 years as the most kick-ass special ops agent the US government has had on its payroll, finally goes too far and is de-commissioned, forcing him to live his life like the rest of us. This isn’t the first time Rhames has led a television series after his turn as Kojak in the series remake back in 2005. First Trailer for Mark Ruffalo’s Directorial Debut SYMPATHY FOR DELICIOUSby Adam Chitwood Posted: March 23rd, 2011The first trailer for Mark Ruffalo’s directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious has been released. The film tells the story of a paralyzed DJ (played by the film’s scribe, Christopher Thornton) who somehow acquires the ability to heal, though is unable to make himself walk. Judging from the trailer, Ruffalo definitely shows some promise as a director. Factor in the top-notch cast, and I’m very interested in seeing how this film plays out. The flick premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January where it took home the Special Jury Prize.

Ed Harris to Play John McCain in HBO’s GAME CHANGEby Adam Chitwood Posted: March 23rd, 2011 Ed Harris has been tapped to play Senator John McCain in HBO’s adaptation of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s book Game Change, which follows the behind-the-scenes turmoil of the 2008 presidential election. Julianne Moore was previously announced as signing on to play Sarah Palin. Jay Roach (Dinner for Schmucks) is set to direct the flick from a screenplay by Danny Strong. The director/writer duo previously teamed up on HBO’s Recount, which chronicled the fallout of the 2000 presidential election. First Trailer for MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS Starring Jim Carrey and Dancing Penguinsby Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 23rd, 201120th Century Fox has released the first trailer for the family film Mr. Popper’s Penguins. Jim Carrey stars as divorced New York real estate developer: “for years he has been out of contact with his “kooky” father, who leaves him with an unusual inheritance: a penguin.” Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, and Madeline Carroll also star. Mark Waters (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) directs from a script by Jared Stern (The Princess and the Frog) and screenwriting team Sean Anders and John Morris (Hot Tub Time Machine), based on the 1938 children’s novel.

Josh Radnor to Direct and Star in LIBERAL ARTS With Elizabeth Olsenby Adam Chitwood Posted: March 23rd, 2011Fresh off his directorial debut HappyThankYouMorePlease, which premiered at Sundance to highly positive reviews, How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor is planning on stepping behind the camera once more for the indie film Liberal Arts. Radnor also wrote the flick and THR reports that he will star alongside Sundance darling Elizabeth Olsen. The younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth broke out in a big way at this year’s Sundance Film Festival with her performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene.
Liberal Arts tells the story of a 35-year-old whose yearning for his glory days of college is intensified when he strikes up a romance with a 19-year-old college student over a shared love of music and literature. The man is busy coming to terms with his age and responsibilities, while the young girl’s immaturity puts a strain on their relationship. The whole thing kind of reminds me of 2006’s underrated The Last Kiss starring Zach Braff. Radnor will shoot the film this spring during his hiatus from How I Met Your Mother. HBO Greenlights Comedy Pilot SPRING/FALL Starring Tea Leoniby Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 23rd, 2011HBO has greenlit Spring/Fall, a half-hour comedy pilot led by Tea Leoni. The series is set in the New York fashion world: Leoni plays “half of a dysfunctional partnership between two women with different approaches to career, family, and friendship.” Kate Robin (Six Feet Under) wrote the script and will produce with Leoni, Jimmy Miller (The Other Guys), and documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler (The September Issue). Deadline imparts that the pilot will shoot this June.

A couple of casting stories for you this evening. Deadline reports that Julianne Moore has been tapped to portray Sarah Palin in Jay Roach’s (Dinner for Schmucks) adaptation of Mark Halperin and John Heilemann’s book following the behind-the-scenes turmoil of the 2008 presidential election. Roach previously directed another HBO Films flick, Recount, which examined the fallout of the 2000 presidential election. The script for Game Change is being penned by Danny Strong (Recount), and follows both the Obama campaign and the McCain campaign from the party primaries up through election night, so we’ve got quite a few more roles to be cast (Obama, Clinton, McCain, etc.).
Eric McCormack is set to star in the supernatural thriller Barricade for WWE (yes, that WWE). Heat Vision reports that filming on the Andrew Currie-directed flick is set to begin later this month. The story follows a recently widowed psychiatrist who takes his children to a remote cabin to unwind. Obviously, they’re not exactly alone and the father must battle “unknown forces” to save his family from peril. CBS Films to Distribute Coen Brothers-Scripted Remake of GAMBIT Starring Colin Firth and Cameron Diazby Adam Chitwood Posted: March 9th, 2011
CBS Films has acquired distribution rights to the Joel and Ethan Coen-scripted remake to the 1966 Michael Caine-Shirley MacClaine caper comedy Gambit. The remake, from director Michael Hoffman (The Last Station), is set to star Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz. Firth will play a London art curator who plots an elaborate scheme to con a wealthy collector into buying a fake Monet painting. As part of the ruse, he recruits a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to play the part of a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.
Deadline reports that filming is set to begin in London this May. It appears that this will be the first film Firth will shoot following his Oscar win last month for his brilliant turn in The King’s Speech. Relatively new to the movie-making business, CBS Films recently scored a hit with The Mechanic and currently has the fantasy-romance Beastly in theaters. CBS Films To Distribute The Coen Brothers-Scripted Gambit With Colin Firth

CBS Films has made five films since January 2010, and despite trying to reach all corners of the market they have yet to have a real solid opening. From Extraordinary Measures to Beastly none of their films have opened at number one on their respective weekend and while the latter film is still in theaters, none have been able to make more than $40 million domestically (The Back-Up Plan is their most successful film with a $37 million domestic take). Their newest acquisition, however, has something that none of their other films have brought to the table: Oscar Power.
Deadline is reporting that CBS Films has won the U.S. distribution rights for Gambit, the con-artist film written by Academy Award winners Joel and Ethan Coen and starring recent Oscar winner Colin Firth. Directed by Michael Hoffman, Firth will play an art curator who teams up with a "Texas steer roper" - played by Cameron Diaz - to bamboozle the richest man in England. The film is a remake of the 1966 Michael Caine-Shirley MacLaine film of the same name.
This movie should be a perfect litmus test for the young distributor. Considering the incredible amount of talent on display here, it should be easy to open this movie at number one, provided that they get the release date right. MY MOTHERS CURSE Starring Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand Opens March 30, 2012by Brendan Bettinger Posted: March 9th, 2011Paramount Pictures has scheduled the road trip comedy My Mother’s Curse for release on March 30, 2012. Barbra Streisand star as a mother and son who, according to Variety, “embark on a road trip so the inventor son can sell his latest invention.” Previous reports indicate the script from Dan Fogelman (Tangled) reunite Streisand with a lost love. Paramount may have actually performed the mother’s curse on the last pre-Easter 2012 weekend — as of this writing, no other film is scheduled that Friday.
Anne Fletcher (The Proposal) will direct; Fogelman, Rogen, and Streisand are producing alongside Lorne Michaels (SNL), John Goldwyn (MacGruber), Evan Goldberg (The Green Hornet), David Ellison (True Grit), Paul Schwake (Strange Wilderness), and Dana Goldberg (Yes Man). Rogen will next be heard March 18 as the titular alien in Paul, followed by Kung Fu Panda 2 on May 26. If you took one lesson away from 2010's year in movies I hope it was that Tom Hardy is awesome. After years of putting on great performances under the radar, Christopher Nolan's Inception made him a break-out star that absolutely everyone wants a piece of. But while we wait for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and This Means War to get official release dates, the guaranteed next opportunity to see more of Tom Hardy will be on September 9th when Warrior is released and tonight we have the film's first poster.
Posted by Jennifer Morrison (who also stars in the film) on her Facebook wall, the artwork shows off both Hardy and his co-star Joel Edgerton. Directed by Gavin O'Connor (Pride and Glory), Hardy plays a man returning home to where his alcoholic former-boxer dad, played by Nick Nolte, trains him to become a mixed martial arts fighter. The greatest conflict, however, is that the tournament that he plans to enter will bring him face-to-face with his oldest brother and fellow fighter, played by Edgerton.
