January Jones Covers 'Allure' June 2011

January Jones Covers 'Allure' June 2011
January Jones graces the cover of Allure magazine’s June 2011 issue.
Here’s what the 33-year-old Mad Men actress had to share:
On the difficulty dating men in the film industry: “I’m sorry, I need to go away for three months and kiss other men while you stay here.”
On her advocacy for a congressional bill to outlaw shark finning: “I only had to sleep with 15 to 20 congressmen, took one for the team.”
On working with Senator John McCain on the Shark Conservation Act: “I kind of look like his wife there. When I first met him, he’s like, ‘How do you sleep with that lobbyist?’ I was like, s—, did I sleep with a lobbyist? And then I realized he was talking about [Mad Men]. Whew.”
On trying therapy: “I was traveling so much, and I just needed to make sure I was grounded and had someone to talk to. She talked more than I did, which was hilarious and great and fun. I really like her. It was like having a girlfriend. But I’m not going to give her $300 an hour to have the same conversation I could have with my girlfriend.”
On her diet: I’ll stop at McDonald’s and get a strawberry shake and fries and not feel guilty at all, because I deserve it.”

Alexander Skarsgard Covers 'GQ' June 2011
Alexander Skarsgard heats up the June 2011 cover of GQ, on newsstands May 24.
Here’s what the 34-year-old True Blood star shared in the “Here Comes The Viking” cover feature:
On his dad, Stellan, who’s also an actor: “I don’t think I came to acting to compete with my father. But, you know, he wasn’t around as much as normal dads, and seeing his passion … Maybe it was a way to get his attention. I mean, if anything, we’re trying to take care of him. He’s over the hill.”
On life in L.A. and the entertainment industry: “Hollywood can be like kids playing marbles on the schoolyard. Everybody wants the shiny marble until one kid says he doesn’t. Then nobody will touch it. So it’s important that I make good decisions now.”
Straw Dogs director Rod Lurie on co-stars and real-life couple Alexander and Kate Bosworth: “In the beginning [of filming the rape scene], Kate would be crying after every take and Alex would try to comfort her. By the end, everybody got really raw.”

FYI: Alex is wearing an IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XVI.

Fox Searchlight has released the trailer for the coming-of-age drama The Art of Getting By (formerly titled Homework).  I caught the film at Sundance and kind of loathed the hell out of it, but maybe you like cloying movies with underdeveloped characters whining about how hard life is for white upper-class teenagers living in New York City.  If you enjoy movies like that, you will love The Art of Getting By.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer plus two new images from the film.  The Art of Getting By also stars Michael Angarano, Rita Wilson, and Blair Underwood.  The film opens in limited release on June 17th.

Susan Sarandon, David Arquette and Adam Brody in Talks for Rosanna Arquette’s HEMLOCK DRIVE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: April 20th, 2011

A trio of actors are now in negotiations to star in Rosanna Arquette’s next directorial effort. Susan Sarandon, David Arquette and Adam Brody are in talks to star in the dramedy Hemlock Drive. The Wrap reports that the film centers on an eccentric mother in Connecticut who learns she is dying and brings her three adult children back home for a weekend.
Sarandon is in talks to play the mother, while David Arquette is eyeing the role of a man who owns a nearby bar. Brody is negotiations for the part of Sarandon’s son. The script was written by Jennifer Carta and Mandy Steckelberg, and marks the narrative feature directorial debut of Rosanna Arquette, as she previously helmed the documentaries Searching for Debra Winger and All We Are Saying. Given the Terms of Endearment-esque nature of Hemlock Drive’s plot, it’s easy to see Arquette’s attraction to the project. Shooting begins this September in Louisiana.

Red-Band Trailer, Poster, and First Images from THE CHANGE-UP Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 20th, 2011

The first trailer for The Change-Up has gone online along with the poster and a couple of images. The film is a body-switching comedy like Freaky Friday except instead of kooky hijinks that bring a mother and daughter closer together, it’s a raunchy, foul-mouthed set of hijinks that centers on two estranged friends played by Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.  Bateman is the uptight family man while Reynolds’ character is a man-child who dreams of making it big as a Hollywood actor even though he lives in Atlanta.  I got to visit the set earlier this year and I really liked what I saw, so hopefully the film lives up to my expectations.
Hit the jump to check out the red-band trailer, poster, and new images.  The film also stars Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde, and Alan Arkin.  The Change-Up opens August 5th.

Casting Call: Lindsay Lohan Drops out of GOTTI; Jacki Weaver Joins FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT; Four Join BETWEEN US UPDATED

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: April 20th, 2011

We have some assorted casting news for you this afternoon.  First up, Lindsay Lohan has dropped out of the role of Victoria Gotti in Gotti: Three Generations.  According to TMZ “money was an issue, but the various demands of her management team just got out of control.”  Apparently no one told Lohan’s management team that their client’s work was going straight-to-DVD and that a supporting role alongside John Travolta and Joe Pesci might be a worthwhile career boost.  The news of Lohan’s departure comes on the heels of director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) leaving the project earlier this week.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Nicholas Stoller’s Five Year Engagement and an adaptation of the off-Broadway production Between Us.
[Update: THR now reports that Lohan will be appearing in Gotti, but not as Victoria. She'll now take on the role of John Gotti Jr.'s wife.]

New Posters for CEREMONY, HOMEWORK, and THE DEVIL’S DOUBLE

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: January 26th, 2011

ceremony-homework-the-devils-double-poster-slice
We’ve got three posters tonight from films that have hit the festival circuit in the past few months.  Max Winkler’s Ceremony premiered to positive notices at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, led by Michael Angarano, Uma Thurman, Lee Pace.  Like Ceremony, Homework centers around a young writing talent, but wasn’t received quite as well at Sundance despite the affable presence of Freddie Highmore and Emma Thomas. Fellow Sundance entry The Devil’s Double isn’t about youth so much as it’s about Saddam Hussein’s son Uday and his body double Latif Yahia, but by all accounts it’s a solid twist on the gangster genre.  If that sounds interesting, you should definitely check out Steve’s interview with Dominic Cooper, who plays both Uday and Latif in the film.  View all three posters after the break:

Sundance 2011: First Images and a New Poster for Kevin Smith’s RED STATE

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 3rd,

Hot off the heels of news that Kevin Smith’s upcoming horror film Red State was recently accepted into the Sundance Film Festival, new images have been revealed from the film and a new poster has been unveiled by Smith himself. The poster was released by Smith via Twitter as a “thank you” to fans who pledged $1000 to The Wayne Foundation in less than 30 minutes. The Wayne Foundation is a charity devoted to stopping pederasts, with a mission to provide young women who have fallen victim to commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking with a means of leaving the sex industry for good.
The poster unveiled by Smith features Red State actress Kerry Bishe, and is one of four posters that Smith plans to release next week starting Monday. The headline of the poster, “The Virgin”, asserts Smith’s statement on his “Red State of the Union” podcast that the film begins very much like an 80’s horror film.  Smith’s podcast has been the source of a great deal of news concerning the film, particularly his description of the flick as essentially about “sex, religion, and politics.”  The images from the film that were released showcase Smith’s stellar cast, and confirm that the film is a drastic departure from his previous catalog of films. Hit the jump the check out the poster and images, as well as a bit more on the flick.

Red State stars Michael Parks, Michael Angarano, Kyle Gallner, John Goodman, and Melissa Leo, as well as Kevin Pollak, Anna Gunn, Stephen Root, and Smith’s Hit Somebody lead Nicholas Braun. Per the Sundance release, the flick is about “a group of misfits [who] encounter extreme fundamentalism in Middle America.” Parks is said to play a Fred Phelps-type preacher who leads a family of followers. We previously brought you the first teaser poster for the film, which was created by producer Jon Gordon’s assistant Melissa Bloom. I quite like the posters released so far, and these new images have me even more excited for the film (John freaking Goodman!). Needless to say, I’m hoping the flick gets picked up quickly at Sundance so audiences will get to peep it themselves sometime next year.

Sundance 2011: First Images from Vera Farmiga’s Directorial Debut HIGHER GROUND and HERE

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: December 3rd, 2010

The slate of films premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January were just announced, and we’ve been given a slew of images from a number of films that will have their premiere at the prestigious festival. Higher Ground, screening in the in-competition category, marks the directorial debut of Up in the Air star Vera Farmiga. The actress also stars in the film alongside Joshua Leonard (Blair Witch Project), John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone) and Dagmara Dominczyk (Kinsey). Scripted by Carolyn Briggs and Tim Metcalfe (Kalifornia), the synopsis is as follows: A frustrated young mother turns to a fundamentalist community for answers, but after years of dogma and loss, she must find the courage to ask the questions that will help her reclaim her life.
HERE, also screening in the in-competition category, is directed by documentary filmmaker Braden King and stars Ben Foster, Lubna Azabal and Narek Nersisyan. The script, written by King and Dani Valent, centers on an American cartographer who’s on assignment to create a new, more accurate satellite survey of Armenia, who forms a powerful bond with an Armenian expatriate and art photographer. Hit the jump to check out the images from both films.

Here are the images from Higher Ground. Click on an image to see it in high-resolution.  Expect a lot more Sundance articles very soon.
