Trailer for David Cronenberg’s A DANGEROUS METHOD

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: June 21st, 2011

The first trailer for director David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method has been released, and it’s fantastic. Based on Christopher Hampton’s 2002 play The Talking Cure, the film centers on the relationship between Carl Jung (played by Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen), and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley), the woman who came between them. The trailer is intense, showcasing what are sure to be some powerhouse performances, as well as a score by Howard Shore. Oh, and there’s sex. Lots of sex. This is Cronenberg after all. Sony Pictures Classics is set to release the film, hopefully sometime this year. Hit the jump to watch the trailer for yourself. http://collider.com/a-dangerous-method-movie-trailer/97866/

"Footloose" Trailer Arrives Online

Posted: June 22nd, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Paramount Pictures has unveiled the trailer for its upcoming "Footloose" remake, starring Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough and Dennis Quaid. Check it out below.

Plot: Ren MacCormack (Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and Bomont's local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the minister's troubled daughter Ariel (Hough) in the process.

The new movie is directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) and is set to hit theaters on October 14th.

James Cameron on "Avatar" Sequels

Posted: June 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Fox News caught up with James Cameron and spoke about the upcoming two "Avatar" sequels, which the director will shoot back-to-back and release them in theaters in December of 2014 and December of 2015.

"We're shooting two films back-to-back, so I'm writing two scripts, not one, which will complete a [three]-film story arc – not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I'm pretty excited about that," he said. "We're doing a lot of preliminary work right now on new software and new animation techniques and so on. We're creating a new facility in Manhattan Beach so everybody that's not already dead is coming back."

Cameron also spoke about the pressure of trying to top "Avatar," which became the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.78 billion. "There's always an expectation," he explained. "I had to deal with that after 'The Terminator' back in 1984. All of a sudden I had a big hit movie and it was 'what are you doing next?' But my job is to take the audience on a journey and entertain them."

Naomi Harris Confirms She May be Bond Girl in "James Bond 23"

Posted: June 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Earlier this month, we heard that Naomi Harris (28 Days Later, Ninja Assassin) has been offered a role in the 23rd James Bond installment. The role is being described as "Daniel Craig's sexy sidekick," which likely means that Harris will be the next Bond Girl.

ShadowAndAct now caught up with the actress to find out if there is any truth to the rumor. "All I can say is I've met the 'Bond' team, I've met Sam Mendes, they're all wonderful," she said. "I've auditioned for 'Bond.' My audition was really great actually because it's so top secret, the whole Bond thing. I hadn't realized how top secret it was. I've auditioned for a lot of things before but never for something where you can't see the script, it's that secret. I auditioned with a scene from 'Quantum of Solace.' You don't know what role you're going up for either, so everybody gets given a scene from a previous 'Bond' movie. I don't know whether it's true or not that I'm going to be an intelligent Bond girl. I don't know at all but I'd like it!"

Mendes is planning to begin filming soon with the goal of releasing the movie in theaters on November 9th, 2012.

Liv Tyler on "The Strangers" Sequel

Posted: June 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Liv Tyler on The Strangers Sequel
ComingSoon had the chance to sit down with Liv Tyler and talks about the sequel to "The Strangers," which has been rumored ever since the first film became a hit back in 2008.

"It's strange. I've read the script. It's been around the whole time, but I don't know how real it is," she said. "Bryan [Bertino] isn't directing it, I don't know what's happened with it."

The last time we heard about "The Strangers 2" was last month when NY Knicks star Amar'e Stoudemire revealed that he will be producing the movie with Relativity Media. Tyler was set to reprise her role, but since she barely knows anything, maybe that's not the plan anymore.

New Photos from "Sherlock Holmes" Sequel

Posted: June 21st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

New Photos from Sherlock Holmes Sequel
Today we have three new photos from the upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" sequel, called "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." The new film stars Robert Downey Jr as the title characters, Jude Law as Watson and Jarred Harris as the villainous mastermind Moriarty. Check out the photos below.

Collider caught up with Harris to discuss his role in the sequel. "It's never explained in the story [whether Moriarty knows that he's evil] and I don't really think it needs to be," he said. "But for me, the character's amoral. He's moved beyond the concept of there being a heaven and a hell and a God and a devil, and there being good and evil. He doesn't believe in it. And if you don't believe in that moral construct, then everyone is free to do whatever they want. He's just doing what’s good for him."

"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" is once again directed by Guy Ritchie and is set to hit theaters on December 16th.

***Sundance 2011: HIGHER GROUND Review ***James Cameron Says AVATAR 2 & AVATAR 3 Will Be Shot Together; Expects Most of the Cast to Return ***James Gandolfini Picks Up TWYLIGHT ZONES; Will Likely Join EXTREMELY LOUD and COGAN’S TRADE

Sundance 2011: HIGHER GROUND Review

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: January 24th, 2011

Religion is a tricky topic.  It’s incredibly easy to mock it or to preach it.  But an honest exploration of faith requires complete commitment and a willingness to let non-believers scoff and the holier-than-thou scorn.  Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut Higher Ground manages the impressive task of fully committing to its characters’ faith.  Unfortunately, it never transforms that commitment into a more fulfilling experience.  Despite an earnest approach to the Christian faith, Farmiga never finds anything interesting to say about it.
Higher Ground follows the life story of Corinne (Farmiga).  The movie starts slow and never picks up much speed.  We see Corinne’s childhood home-life, her introduction to Christianity, her intellectual curiosity, her marriage at a young age, and finally her “coming-to-God” moment.  This is all before we finally get to see Corinne as an adult and her total devotion to Christianity.  While everything in the first act isn’t unnecessary, it could have been condensed and more creatively explained.
Once we see Corinne’s life as a devout Christian, the film picks up a little bit of steam, but can’t maintain its pace.  Watching Corinne go through the paces of her Christian life is curious, but Farmiga doesn’t seem to know what’s worthwhile in the story and what’s not.  She also isn’t able to bring a spark to the proceedings.  There are some laughs from the oddities of her Evangelical faith, but almost everything is presented so matter-of-fact that there rarely seems to be much joy in Christianity.  When Corinne expresses her desire to speak in tongues so she can be closer to God, it’s a wonderful moment because the film rarely shows the love from these people who love Jesus.

To its great credit, Higher Ground never thumbs it nose at faith and that is incredibly admirable.  The film has the potential to be something special because it makes no judgment on the devotion of its characters.  It questions their discriminatory practices and close mindedness, but it nurtures their total belief in God and the Devil as physically real entities that can be called upon and fought against in one’s daily struggles.
But Higher Ground never connects the faith of its characters to something grander.  There are no deep insights or even much of an emotional connection.  It’s not a film that’s about big performances and it’s clear that Farmiga is actively making a choice not to go big (except in brief, bizarre fantasy sequences that feel like a comic crutch) and that’s fine if you’ve got intensity or complexity simmering beneath the surface. Higher Ground could have been divine, but the story and Farmiga’s direction rarely manage to raise the film’s spirit.

James Cameron Says AVATAR 2 & AVATAR 3 Will Be Shot Together; Expects Most of the Cast to Return

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 24th, 2011

Back in October, we reported that James Cameron’s Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 were looking at Christmas 2014/2015 release dates respectively.  At that time, though, we weren’t sure if the plan was to shoot the films back-to-back or if Cameron/Fox were going to sit back and count the profits from Avatar 2 (which will require a considerable amount of time, I’m sure) before lensing the third.  Today, though, Cameron has confirmed that the projects will be shot at the same time.  In a recent interview, the writer/director/producer said:
“I am in the process of writing the next two Avatar films now. We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart. Christmas ’14 and ’15 is the current plan.”
For more on what Cameron had to say about the returning cast members and potential Avatar charity work, hit the jump.
Talking with EW’s Inside Movies, Cameron assured fans that much of the original cast will return for Avatar 2:
“Basically, if you survived the first film, you get to be in the second film, at least in some form.”
In addition to breaking the sequels’ shooting, editing, and casting plans, Cameron also confirmed that both films would be of a charitable mind:
“One thing’s for sure: some percentage of the presumably-massive Avatar sequel gross will go to charity. Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the Avatar world. I didn’t want to make more Avatar movies without a grander plan in place.”
In case you were unaware, 2009’s Avatar earned a little over $2.7 billion at box offices worldwide against a production budget thought to be somewhere around $250 million.  As such, after catching wind of this generous plan, I wouldn’t be surprised to see “environmental causes” popping up everywhere in the near future.  In fact, if anyone knows of any holes in the “environmental causes market,” feel free to send them my way.

James Gandolfini Picks Up TWYLIGHT ZONES; Will Likely Join EXTREMELY LOUD and COGAN’S TRADE

by Jason Barr    Posted: January 24th, 2011

James Gandolfini is apparently an experienced juggler.  From what we can tell, the actor may soon be balancing as many as three new projects in the near future.  Gandolfini has been confirmed for the first of the three projects, The Sopranos creator David Chase’s new film Twylight Zones.  Per Deadline, that film is set in 1960’s New Jersey and tells the story of an awkward teen (played by John Magaro) who begins to grow into his own as the lead singer of a rock band.  According to the report, Gandolfini will play the teen’s disapproving Italian father (sounds about right).
As for his other two potential projects, Gandolfini is currently in final negotiations to join Stephen Daldry’s adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock already star) as well as Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of Cogan’s Trade (headed by Brad Pitt).  For more on those two projects, hit the jump.
