During the first season of Spartacus, the actor Andy Whitfield, who played Spartacus was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma so Starz executives decided to make a prequel to the first season while Andy Whitfield got treatment. However, Whitfield dropped out all together so now the show needs a new Spartacus. It is still unclear when season 2 will begin filming.
