Ethan Hawke to Cameo in TOTAL RECALL Remake
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 10th, 2011
Ethan Hawke has joined Len Wiseman’s upcoming remake of Total Recall. The film stars Colin Farrell as a factory worker who begins to believe he’s a spy for either the nation stat Euromerica or New Shanghai, but he doesn’t know which. The movie is based on the Philip K. Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” and was loosely adapted back in 1990 as an Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie directed by Paul Verhoeven. The movie has ditched the concept of going to Mars because I guess as a country we’ve given up on that dream.
Heat Vision reports that Hawke’s role is being kept under wraps and that it’s a cameo in nature. I’m not exactly sure why you’d cast Hawke in a cameo when he wasn’t in the original film, but I’m not going to argue against his participation. The film also stars Bryan Cranston as villain Vilos Cohaagen, and Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel are in talks to play the female leads Lori and Melina, respectively. Total Recall opens August 3, 2012.
Aaron Eckhart, AnnaSophia Robb, and Sean Bean Join Ben Hibon’s Dark PETER PAN Re-Imagining
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 10th, 2011
There are various Peter Pan re-imaginings scooting their way through development. There’s the terrible-sounding prequel Pan that stars Channing Tatum and sets Peter and Captain Hook as brothers. Disney is considering the a promising adaptation of Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson’s Peter and the Starcatchers, which has Peter and the Lost Boys as the pirates. And then there’s my favorite among the adaptations—an action-thriller, also titled Pan, directed by Ben Hibon. If you’re not familiar with Hibon, he directed the beautiful animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Pan was originally set up as a directing vehicle for Guillermo del Toro, but Hibon came on board to helm the picture last November. The story is a dark re-imagining of J.M. Barrie’s tale which has Captain Hook as a haunted former police detective in pursuit of a childlike kidnapper.
Now the first cast members have been revealed and it’s an exciting line-up: Aaron Eckhart, Sean Bean, and AnnaSophia Robb. Hit the jump for more details on their characters.

Casting Call: Alec Baldwin Drops out of ROCK OF AGES; Jean Reno Joins I, ALEX CROSS
by Matt Goldberg Posted: May 10th, 2011
This afternoon we have some casting and some un-casting to report. In un-casting news, THR reports that Alec Baldwin has dropped out of Adam Shankman’s musical Rock of Ages. You may recall Baldwin dropped out of Men in Black III to do Rock of Ages back in March. Baldwin was set to play “Dennis Dupree, the owner of the Bourbon Room, the Sunset Boulevard nightclub at the center of the movie.” No reason has been given for Baldwin’s departure, although it’s possible there was a scheduling conflict with Woody Allen’s upcoming comedy. While it’s an unfortunate loss for the project, Rock of Ages isn’t lacking for stars since the cast features Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Mary J. Blige, Julianne Hough, and newcomer Diego Boneta. Rock of Ages is set to open on June 1, 2012.
