James Franco Goes 'Outside' for '127 Hours'
James Franco takes the cover of Outside’s December issue.
Here’s what the 32-year-old had to share with the mag about his movie 127 Hours:
On shooting a scene where he tried to move a boulder: “[Director] Danny [Boyle] said, “I’m just gonna roll the camera. Keep going, and don’t stop, and try to get out of it. You won’t get out, but keep trying.’ I knew I was going to get beat up, and I said, “OK, I’m happy to do it, but make sure you get it on camera so I don’t have to do it again.’”
On how his body handled the scenes: “I was purple all over. But when you keep it going that long, you get pulled into a scene in a much different way, in which you’re really just doing something to try and accomplish it.”
On how real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston (whom James plays in the film) described the pain of having to amputate his own arm: “He said it felt like his arm had been thrust into lava, that it was incinerated.”

Cate Blanchett: Sydney Theatre Company Solar Switch-On!
Cate Blanchett and husband Andrew Upton flick a fake switch celebrating the Sydney Theatre Company’s rooftop solar panels on Friday (November 26) in Sydney, Australia.
The couple, who are the STC’s artistic directors, said powering the company’s building with the sun was about bringing it into the 21st century.
“If theatre doesn’t engage with the big issues that face human beings and society generally, then it very quickly becomes irrelevant,” Cate said at the ceremony.
The new rooftop solar power system will reportedly produce up to 70 percent of the company’s power supply, which is enough energy to power 46 average homes!
