First Teaser Trailer for THE LINCOLN LAWYER Starring Matthew McConaughey

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: November 19th, 2010

More Lincoln news! Okay, not really. This one involves the towncar. Lionsgate has released the first teaser trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Michael Connelly.  The film stars Matthew McConaughey giving off a bit of an A Time to Kill vibe, along with Ryan Phillippe, Marisa Tomei, John Leguizamo, William H. Macy, Josh Lucas, and Michael Peña.  The plot revolves around a successful criminal defense attorney who does business from the back of a Lincoln Towncar.  He gets involved with a high profile case concerning a wealthy realtor from Beverly Hills (Phillippe).  Tommy Lee Jones was previously attached to direct and star in the film but dropped out over creative differences. Brad Furman (The Take) now directs from a script by John Romano (Nights in Rodanthe).  The Lincoln Lawyer will be released on March 18th, 2011. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

Here’s the official synopsis:
Mickey Haller (Matthew McConaughey) is a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back of his Lincoln sedan.  Haller has spent most of his career defending garden-variety criminals, until he lands the case of his career: defending Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillippe), a Beverly Hills playboy accused of rape and attempted murder.  But the seemingly straightforward case suddenly develops into a deadly game of survival for Haller.

Duncan Jones broke onto the scene last year with his low-budget feature debut Moon, starring Sam Rockwell and the voice of Kevin Spacey. The mind-bending science fiction film was a critical success and helped usher in a year of fabulous science fiction films. His next movie, Source Code, stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, and Vera Farmiga and tells the story of a soldier who has eight minutes in the “source code,” a body he can inhabit, to figure out who bombed a train. When he falls for a girl, the stakes are raised. Moon was fantastic, and Source Code is looking to be a great film as well.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Source Code is set to open on April 15, 2011.

Although the film shows the intelligence that Jones has in setting up a film, some of the effects look a bit cheesy. Regardless, this film will likely rely on the practical effects and low-budget techniques he picked up on his first film.
Here’s the official synopsis for Source Code:
When decorated soldier Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up in the body of an unknown man, he discovers he’s part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. In an assignment unlike any he’s ever known, he learns he’s part of a government experiment called the “Source Code,” a program that enables him to cross over into another man’s identity in the last 8 minutes of his life. With a second, much larger target threatening to kill millions in downtown Chicago, Colter re-lives the incident over and over again, gathering clues each time, until he can solve the mystery of who is behind the bombs and prevent the next attack. Filled with mind-boggling twists and heart-pounding suspense, Source Code is a smart action-thriller directed by Duncan Jones (Moon) also starring Michelle Monaghan (Eagle Eye, Due Date), Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed), and Jeffrey Wright (Quantum of Solace, Syriana).
