Back in April, after Jeremy Renner was first offered the lead role in Tony Gilroy's The Bourne Legacy, our own Katey Rich wrote an editorial pleading with Hollywood not to overexpose one of the best actors working today (two Oscar nominations in two years isn't easy). Sadly it doesn't seem to have worked. Since that day Renner has been mentioned in connection to a Steve McQueen biopic, Ice Age: Continental Drift, and Hilary Swank's You’re Not You. And he isn't through yet.
Variety reports that Jeremy Renner has inked a deal to both star in and produce a film called Slingshot. The film will tell the true story of rally racer Bill Caswell, who entered and placed third in the Mexico round of the World Rally Championship with a $500 1991 BMW 318i that he found on Craigslist. Don Handfield, who has also signed on as a producer, will write the screenplay (Renner and Handfield are also working together on the aforementioned McQueen flick). Renner will next be seen in Mission: Impossible- Ghost Protocol, but has a full 2012 that includes Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and The Avengers in addition to Ice Age and Bourne.
It's hard to blame Renner for seizing the moment and grabbing every opportunity he can. The man has worked incredibly hard to get where he is today and has earned every single bit of praise that has been offered to him. That said, there's nothing wrong with cooling your jets a little.

Anthony Mackie Takes A Seat On Warner's Gangster Squad
published: 2011-06-10 14:03:20 Author: Sean O'Connell
How does one follow up the tough task of playing a philosophy-spouting, hat-wearing spiritual guide in the underrated The Adjustment Bureau? If you are Anthony Mackie, you go gangster.
Mackie, who also earned an Indie Spirit nomination for playing Jeremy Renner’s right-hand man in Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker, has been added to the impressive Gangster Squad ensemble at Warner Bros., according to Variety. He’ll co-star alongside Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Michael Pena in a period police thriller based on actual events surrounding an LAPD bureau created specifically to combat East Coast mobsters who were heading west. The trade says Mackie will play LAPD lieutenant Rocky Washington.
Even if Gangster, directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer, comes off as a B-level L.A. Confidential, it will be a project worth tracking. The cast is spectacular, and the ripped-from-the-headlines gambit works even when those headlines are decades old. Plus, the popularity of the crime-solving L.A. Noire video game proves there is an audience hungry for these types of stories, providing they are handled properly. As for Mackie, you can rent his Adjustment Bureau later this month, and see him alongside Hugh Jackman in the robot boxing drama Real Steel later this year.

Hunger Games Set Photos Show Elizabeth Banks As Effie Trinket, And A Look At District 12
published: 2011-06-10 09:25:21 Author: Katey Rich
The Hunger Games is finally underway shooting in North Carolina, and despite what's probably a lot of security, some set photos have managed to leak. It looks like they're kicking things off by shooting the early scenes in District 12, where strong-willed Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her sister's (Willow Shields) place in the titular games, a fight to the death in the nation's Capitol. The five set photos snagged by Fangirltastic show Shields, Josh Hutcherson who plays fellow Games tribute Peeta, and Elizabeth Banks, playing Katniss and Peeta's escort to the Capitol, Effie Trinket. There's also a photo of what looks like the Justice Building in District 12, with ropes set up in front that are likely the corrals holding all the children whose names are entered into "The Reaping," the drawing to see who will participate in the games.
Check out the shot of Banks, done up with wild hair and a poofy hat, and the Justice Building below; click on them to see the full collection at Fangirltastic. Hopefully there will be more where this comes from, but not too many-- as excited as I am to see what they do with the look of the film, I want at least a few surprises when the movie comes to theaters on March 23 next year.

Synopsis: Set in Mississippi during the 1960s, Skeeter (Stone) is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a writer, but turns her friends’ lives — and a small Mississippi town — upside down when she decides to interview the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly — and unwillingly — caught up in the changing times.
The Help also stars Bryce Dallas Howard and Academy Award nominee Viola Davis. http://justjared.buzznet.com/2011/06/09/emma-stone-new-the-help-stills/
