Universal has released a US and a UK poster for their upcoming thriller The Adjustment Bureau.  Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, the plot centers on an ambitious politician (played by Matt Damon) who falls in love with a ballet dancer (Emily Blunt) but discovers that mysterious forces and a team of shadowy figures are trying to keep them apart.  The film also stars Anthony Mackie, John Slattery, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly, and Terence Stamp.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Adjustment Bureau:
Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us?  Matt Damon stars in the thriller The Adjustment Bureau as a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else.  To get it, he must pursue the only woman he’s ever loved across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.
On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt)—a woman like none he’s ever known.  But just as he realizes he’s falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart.
David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself—the men of The Adjustment Bureau—who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together.  In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path…or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her.
The Adjustment Bureau is written for the screen and directed by George Nolfi (writer of Ocean’s Twelve, co-writer of The Bourne Ultimatum).  It is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (“Total Recall,” “Minority Report” and “Blade Runner”).

Tom Hanks Confirmed to Star in Kathryn Bigelow’s TRIPLE FRONTIER

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: November 30th, 2010

Last month, we reported that Tom Hanks was “seriously considering” a starring role in Triple Frontier, the new film from Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker).  Producer Charles Roven now tells ComingSoon that Hanks is officially on board.  Roven added that they were still casting the other roles and they were aiming for a mid-March 2011 shoot.  He also referred to the project as “Triple Frontier” and not as its other rumored title, “Sleeping Dogs”.
Written by Hurt Locker scribe Mark Boal, the film centers on a border zone of South America known as “la triple frontera”, and is a haven for drug cartels.  There’s a strong Middle Eastern community who have long been linked to Islamic extremists and their money laundering activities.  Hit the jump for more on Triple Frontier and a refresher on Hanks’ other projects.

Other big-name actors have previously been named in connection with the project including Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, Javier Bardem, Christian Bale, Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy Renner, and Johnny Depp.  The film reportedly contains five major roles.  It’s clear that Bigelow is now using her Oscar-clout to snap up some A-list talent and I couldn’t be happier about that.
As for Hanks, he’s also currently attached to an adaptation of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close directed by Stephen Daldry (The Reader) and the Wachowski Siblings’ adaptation of David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas.  As we reported yesterday, Atlas is currently set to shoot next summer, which would allow Hanks to shoot Frontier in the spring.  His next film, Larry Crowne (which he also co-wrote and directed), is set to open on July 1, 2011.
