Shells Bells is a Boston based pinup model and a dear friend of mine. She is currently entered in Kitten Koffin Zombies Pinup Contest! The winner will be Miss December in their '09 calendar! Her contest photos were taken by another dear friend, the talented Timothy J. Steiner, who captured her warm beauty and lively charm! Click on the banner or go to Kitten Koffin Zombies register your email and vote. You won't be put on a mailing list or anything like that, they just require you to register an email to ensure a fair contest. You can vote once a day and the contest ends Aug 15th! Please sign up now and vote!!
Shells also is a full time hair stylist, makeup artist and crafter! Her specialty is retro hair clips and flowers; perfect for the pinup within. They are fantastic~ I own a number of her custom made hair clips, but this silver sparkle one is my favorite!
Shells is a professional model and has graced the pages of national tattoo magazines and is well sought after in the Boston music scene, including being cast in Drop Kick Murphy's music videos. Check out some of her work below~ all photos by Timothy J. Steiner.
Playing dress up and doing fun hair and make up for me, as well as the other models!
Is there a certain period you like to do? Like the 40's or 50's?
Both, but I guess I would have to say 50's a tad more because it was kitschy and much easier to do all those silly ads and poses from the 50's.
What makes a good pinup model?
Being confident in front of the camera and having good hair and makeup! Being able to do it your self is a plus, because you know what looks best on you, and if you're inexperienced, having a good photographer to show some good poses... which when you get the hang of it it's so easy!
What are three things every pinup needs?
Red lipstick , false eyelashes, and confidence!
What have been your favorite shoots so far?
Planes, trains and automobiles... no seriously, it's much easier working with props then just standing in front of a wall posing... but I LOVE anything cooking & kitchen related!
Do you have any advice for aspiring pinups?
Yes, do it! It's the easiest modeling to do... really. Tilting of the head, winking, kisses, and as far as advice I tell any gal starting to get into it, get some pinup books and try and try to recreate the makeup & hair and especially the moves, in front of a mirror....then you realize how simple it is!
Thanks Shells! x
