This past Tuesday night, I attended a private party in honor of Dita Von Teese's 'Be COINTREAUversial' US debut performance in NYC. Dita is the new new brand ambassador for the French liqueur and has a drink named after her~ the Cointreau Teese. This drink is quite delicious! 1 ½ oz. Cointreau ¾ oz. apple juice ½ oz. Monin violet syrup ½ oz. fresh lemon juice. Shake and strain into a martini glass with a ginger-frosted rim; garnish with a violet.
I was fortunate enough to see Dita perform a few years ago in Los Angeles, so I was very excited to see her perform again! This time, I was up close and personal. Burlesque performer and costumer Catherine D'Lish outdid herself on Dita's orange rhinestones and feathered creation. There were touches of 50's glamour with Liz Taylor's Cleopatra-esque costume details, and an elegant bejeweled up do that would make the transformed Eliza Doolittle green with envy. Celebrity hairstylist and Dita confidant Danilo told me excitedly that "they had never done a 50's or 60's theme with her before..." Her whole look was truly exquisite~ right down to her rhinestone encrusted garters!! Her makeup was flawless as usual.
Dita did not fail to mesmerise the awestruck crowd with her tantalizing movements. After disrobing down to silver glitter pasties and G, she deftly danced with giant orange ostrich feather fans before moving on to a Cointreau Teese violet bath. Up and in she went~ into her giant cocktail glass while her porcelain skin glowed like moonlight. Miss Dita is one of the finest entertainers I have seen! Her gratitude and passion for her craft is evident. Her face was luminous; her smile contagious. At the end, she indulges herself with her signature drink while the audience does the same.
If you ever get a chance to see her perform, I urge you to pawn something or sell a kidney~ whatever you have to do to get there and see her. You will not regret it! Dita has been performing most of her life as a dancer, fetish and pin-up model and burlesque teaser~ even before it was mainstream. She helped bring these dying art forms back to life and is the undesputed Queen of Burlesque. Her hard work and love of Old Hollywood Glamour has turned her into a top style icon, an extremely in demand artist and my absolute favorite idol.
